Dear Daughters of Erin Members,
As we reflect on the first six months of this year we can say, “It wasn’t what we had planned!”
The last time we gathered was in March for our successful 2020 Irish breakfast. We had our last meeting and looked forward to the coming celebrations of our Irish heritage – Proclamation Day and St. Patrick’s Day. Our Irish Woman of the Year Peggy McCathran and Member of the Year Cheryl Costello had been honored at the Clann na nGael dinner and soon would be recognized at City Hall and in the parade.
And then it happened … we stayed at home to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Our events, our meetings, our May Crowning, our election, our installation banquet, all were cancelled. Thanks to our past President Sharon Selby and her Board, we were able to provide charitable donations to needy community organizations and move forward through a transition of leadership. I am extremely grateful to Sharon for all she has done for the Daughters of Erin during her tenure as President and look forward to celebrating her and her honorees during next year’s Green Season.
So where do we go from here? As we slowly move away from our pause from normal life, we are already seeing the cancellation of venues for our summer fundraisers – The Shamrock Club Music Festival and The Dublin Irish Festival. We are still holding hope for our Golf Outing in August.
The pandemic has taught us a new way of communicating. People have been connecting with each other via phone, email, Zoom, Facetime or Skype. As we approach our last meeting of the summer knowing it will be impossible to meet as a large group, I am planning a Zoom meeting for our regularly scheduled June 14 meeting. Please see the instructions and information below. It will be good to connect our members once again!
I am not sure what will happen in September when we are scheduled to resume meetings and activities, but I pray that we will all remain healthy and safe this summer. Please feel free to reach out to me at
mckoprs@yahoo.com
with your comments or suggestions.
Peace,
Chris
