MPPTCL Completes 1st ACCC® Conductor Installation in the Geographic Heart of India

MPPTCL recently completed their 220 kV 6.4 kilometer double circuit Interconnector line between the 400 kV Itarasi substation and the 220 kV Itarasi substation in Madhya, Pradesh, India. MPPTCL selected Drake size ACCC Conductor manufactured by APAR Industries, Ltd. to double the capacity of the existing corridor without the need to modify or replace the existing steel lattice structures.

In addition to providing the ACCC Conductor, APAR also provided engineering and installation services. Span lengths were approximately 350 meters which included several 11, 33, 69 and 400 kV line crossings. Sicame provided hardware.

MPPTCL received the 2018 CBIP Award for Best Performing Power Transmission Utility in India and CTC Global is very proud to support their most recent success.

ACCC Conductor installations are now spread across 20 states in India representing more than 100 projects which serve to improve the efficiency, capacity, reliability and resilience of India's electric power grid.

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Completes ACCC® Conductor Installations

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) completed their 132 kV double circuit Barisal - Barisal North transmission line upgrade. The 9.3 kilometer project used 309.7 mm^2 Hawk size ACCC® Conductor to replace AAAC conductor first installed in 1979 on lattice structures.

ACCC ®  Conductor for this project was supplied by APAR Industries, LTD. and hardware was supplied by Dervaux. Boda pullers and tensioners were used along with neoprene lined sheave wheels. Spans of up to 336 meters included highway crossings, wetlands and densely populated areas. ACCC Master Installer Mr. Balaji provided crew support along with CTC Global's Regional Service Manager, Mr. Samudi Sampangi.

PGCB also completed their 132 kV double circuit Khulna Central - Noapara transmission line. The 22.9 kilometer project used 309.7 mm^2 Hawk size ACCC Conductor to replace AAAC conductor first installed in 1982 on lattice structures.

ACCC Conductor for this project was supplied by Sterlite Power Transmission Limited and hardware was supplied by Dervaux. Tesmec pullers and tensioners were used along with neoprene lined sheave wheels.

Spans ranged from 180 to over 420 meters, which included two major highway crossings, a railroad crossing and substantial wetlands. ACCC Master Installer Mr. Ramesh Thota provided crew support along with CTC Global's Regional Service Manager, Mr. Samudi Sampangi.

How The Use of ACCC® Conductor is Helping Combat Climate Change

Between 2005 and 2010, the newly introduced ACCC® Conductor was used to increase the capacity of 3,500 circuit kilometers of transmission lines in a handful of countries.

Today, over 27,000 circuit kilometers of ACCC Conductor are in service in 51 countries. While the ACCC Conductor was initially deployed to increase the capacity of existing transmission lines to alleviate congestion, mitigate sag clearance violations, accommodate load growth and enable the integration of renewables, its improved conductivity is also reducing electrical line losses which serves to reduce fuel consumption and associated CO2 emissions - subsequently helping combat climate change.

Based on the International Energy Agency's "Global Energy & CO2 Status Report" of March, 2019 (using 2018 data), which reports that the average CO2 emissions created from all combined sources of generation is 475 grams (1.047 pounds) per kWh, the ACCC ®  Conductor is currently reducing CO2 emissions by over 2.6 million metric tons per year. This is the equivalent of removing nearly 600,000 cars from the road. The cumulative CO2 reductions saved via the use of the ACCC Conductor exceeds 12 million metric tons.

To put this in perspective, consider the cost of purchasing 600,000 electric cars. Assuming they were powered by 100% renewable energy and the cost per vehicle was $30,000 USD, that would represent an $18 billion dollar investment. Assuming the average cost of installing ACCC Conductor is $100,000 per circuit kilometer, the all-in cost would be $2.7 billion dollars - a fraction of the cost, with arguably far greater benefits.

While the efficiency of the grid previously had taken a back seat to the efficiency of generators, transformers and demand side appliances, the World Bank is now funding transmission projects not only to support economic development, but also specifically to achieve emission reduction objectives.

This is a very good thing and CTC Global is ramping up its production to meet the challenge. Please give this some thought as you contemplate upgrading your transmission system. If you'd like more information please call us or email [email protected]
Southern California Edison (SCE) Continues Projects with ACCC® Conductor

In 2018, SCE completed their first ACCC Conductor Installation in Palm Springs, California in an environmentally sensitive area where excessive conductor sag was observed. In addition to mitigating conductor clearance issues, the use of the ACCC Conductor also served to improve line capacity and grid efficiency.

Since then, SCE has selected ACCC Conductor - with state approval - to address efficiency, reliability and capacity concerns on several additional projects in Southern California, which are also helping deliver more clean renewable energy. In the coming months, CTC Global will share more information about these milestone projects. In the meantime, have a safe, healthy and happy new year.

CTC Global's Conductor Comparison Program CCP Software is Available Online

CTC Global is pleased to announce that our highly regarded Conductor Comparison Program (CCP) software is now available online, and is accessible at:
LINK  The new web-based version has all the features found in the Excel version, which has been replaced and will no longer be supported. The new version is designed to make it easier to use, and it also has some new features. Having CCP online will make it easier to keep it up-to-date with new wire files and other data, and to add improvements as they are made. Users will always know they have the current version every time they log in. CCP is also compatible with tablets.

All data required for calculations is entered on one page. Representative ACCC® Conductors are automatically selected based on the "base" conductor selected. Some fields are automatically entered based on earlier entries or saved user preferences. For example, latitude is entered from a web app based on the project location, and currency conversion is provided using real-time web app information. The user can edit most input data, including default and automatically selected data. Registered users can save multiple projects, recall them, modify them and save them as new projects or overwrite the existing projects.

CCP comparison output is displayed on a separate page. Frequently changed input used for sensitivity analysis is conveniently provided on that same page to minimize toggling between pages. Registered users can export reports that break out sections of the output to PDF and Excel files.

Registration to use CCP requires only a valid email address and password. Users may also use CCP as a guest however, saving and export features are only available to registered users.

Thank you for using our CCP. We welcome your feedback. For technical support, please contact [email protected]
