#MaskUpIndy, Face Masks Are Mandatory in Marion County
The City of Indianapolis has partnered with the Arts Council of Indianapolis to launch the
#MaskUpIndy initiative to encourage residents to wear face coverings in public and to promote the City's free face covering program for Marion County residents. Six local artists have been commissioned to create public artwork to be utilized as a public service announcement illustrating the importance of wearing face coverings.
Marion County residents can request a free face covering at
indy.gov/masks. Individuals who are unable to navigate the city's website can call 317-327-4MAC between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to talk to a customer service representative.

BRICS at Tarkington Park Open Now
BRICS at Tarkington Park opened this past weekend, July 11. They will be open Wednesdays through Sundays 2-8 p.m. for to-go service! Cafe seating and restrooms are currently unavailable to ensure the safety of customers and staff, but there is plenty of seating throughout the park for you to enjoy your treat. The park's public restrooms remain open for use. Masks must be worn in the building when purchasing!

Survey to Re-imagine Public Safety
Want to weigh in on changes you'd like to see in the city's approach to public safety? Mayor Joe Hogsett has launched a public safety survey as part of a community-driven process to re-imagine public safety in Indianapolis. Individual answers will remain confidential. Access the survey at:

Indy Parks Spray Grounds and Playgrounds Reopen
Indy Parks has reopened spray grounds and playgrounds but reminds park visitors to follow the most recent Marion County Public Health Department Public Health Order. While visiting park facilities, greenspaces, and trails, all residents must maintain social distance and follow CDC recommended guidelines, including frequent handwashing and staying home if individuals feel sick. The mandate does not apply to children ages 2 and younger or to individuals who are engaged in a form of indoor/outdoor exercise that is incompatible with wearing a face covering. City's Rental Assistance Program Launches July 13
Residents struggling to pay rent due to the COVID-19 pandemic now might qualify for help from the City of Indianapolis. If you've lost your job because of COVID-19, or are underemployed, and are not receiving any other public assistance, you may get up to three months (90 days) rent paid, including back rent to April 1. The program is funded by $15 million of the nearly $80 million CARES Act funding approved by the City-County Council on June 8 plus additional support from Lilly Endowment Inc. Placemaking Event at Freewheelin' Community Bikes
Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Indiana State Department of Health, Freewheelin Community Bikes
will design a tactical urbanism project for its Mapleton Fall Creek neighborhood. This placemaking tool lets citizens create flexible, short-term projects to help visualize ways to improve street safety by creating pedestrian plazas, parklets and/or pop-up bike lanes. A community meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 20 at 6 p.m. at the bike shop parking lot, 3355 Central Ave. The goal is to design a Pop-Up bike lane ready to use for the Community Bike Ride as part of Freewheelin's Nancy's Ride bike event, on Monday, September 7, 2020.
Freewheelin' is also hosting a Donation Day on Saturday, July 25, 2020, from noon to 6 p.m. All bicycle-related donations (components, apparel, bicycles, tools, etc.) are welcome and will be used to enrich youth programming and offer affordable transportation options to the Freewheelin' community. Donations can be dropped off at the shop: 3355 Central Ave.

Boulevard Place Food Pantry Expansion Underway
Mayor Joe Hogsett joined community leaders July 7 to celebrate the groundbreaking for the expansion and remodeling of the St. Vincent de Paul Boulevard Place Food Pantry, 4202 Boulevard Place. The existing 2,300 square foot facility is a former gas station but once work is completed by the end of the year, the exterior will be much more compatible with its Butler-Tarkington neighbors. Approximately 1,500 square feet of additional space will be constructed to accommodate deliveries from box trucks and to allow for sorting and storage to occur away from where clients circulate. A waiting room will also be added. "We must do everything to make sure food insecurity and food deserts are a thing of the past," Mayor Hogsett said in his brief remarks. "In the meantime, stopgap measures like St. Vincent de Paul are necessary." Volunteers staff the pantry, now in its 38th year of service. Some 489,000 pounds of food were distributed last year.

Indy Art & Seek is a partnership between Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) and the Arts Council of Indianapolis (ACI) to create public art experiences for both residents and visitors. Funded by a grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc., more than 100 new "art interventions" of public art along urban streets will be created. In Midtown, the first project is in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood. "Featherwalk" by Andrea Light will be temporary painting on the Boulevard Place crosswalk at 38th Street.
Other Midtown projects include:
* Two "flow" performance events in the Crown Hill neighborhood, one at 34th and Illinois, and one in front of Crown Hill Cemetery's Gothic gate;
* A wheatpasted photo-portrait installation at Believe Circle City High School, 2540 N. Capitol;
* A series of four spoken-word performances in Historic Meridian Park (locations to be determined)
* A pair of fence-based collage installations in Mapleton-Fall Creek, one at Shortridge H.S. and one at Phillips Temple;
* An installation of painted birdhouses and a rainbow tulip bed at Urban Patch, 31st and Ruckle and 30th and Park.
The goal is to have all artworks installed by the end of July.
