Parents of gifted or twice-exceptional children are invited to participate in a guided discussion group, led by Dr. Lisa Hancock, a SENG certified master facilitator, about the social and emotional needs of gifted and twice-exceptional children, and the parenting issues related to those needs. Topics will include: Identification/ Characteristics, Intensity/Perfectionism/Stress, Familial Relationships, Friends/Peers, Communication, Idealism/Depression, Motivation/ Underachievement, Tradition Breaking, Discipline, and Advocacy. As a bonus, Summit Center's Parent Educator, Melanie Soloway, J.D., C.P.E., will join Dr. Hancock at two of the sessions to offer added information and guidance. Registration is $249 per person, or $450 for a couple. All participants need to purchase and bring the book A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children, by James Webb, et al., to each session.
This group is open to individuals who are currently parenting gifted/2e children ages toddler through teen/young adult. It is not intended for professionals who work with gifted/2e children.
Lisa L. Hancock, Ph.D., MBA is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides neuropsychological assessments, counseling, and psychotherapy to children, teens, families, and adults. She specializes in working with twice-exceptional children, those who are gifted and have concurrent learning or developmental challenges, as well as with individuals who are highly gifted. Dr. Hancock has worked as a Gifted Advocate for many years helping families of gifted and twice-exceptional children navigate both public and private school systems. She also works with school and district administrators to design and implement educational and social programming for gifted children; provides teacher in-service training; and conducts parent education workshops.
