The STEM Learning Ecosystems Community of Practice is thrilled to release Restoring America's Position as a World Leader by Reinvesting in STEM, a report outlining top recommendations for the Biden-Harris Administration. Read the full report HERE. EngWINS Seeks Engineering Mentors 

In collaboration with the Philadelphia Education Fund and others, The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University is offering a program entitled Engineering Women in Natural Sciences (EngWINS). EngWINS will establish virtual adult/student mentor/mentee relationships during the spring of 2021, followed by in-person research internships over the of summer 2021. 

EngWINS seeks 24 motivated mentors (engineering professionals) to virtually engage 1-2 high school girls in the spring; and then host the students in their labs, research sites, or other worksites over the summer.

Mentor Applications must be received by March 5, 2021. The program is not accepting applications from high school students , as these young have already been identified. For more information, please contact Betty Louis, Engineering Women In Natural Sciences Coordinator.

Pennsylvania STEM Coalition &
Pennsylvania Statewide STEM Ecosystem

The Pennsylvania STEM Coalition and the Pennsylvania Statewide STEM Ecosystem (PSSE) offer a series of STEM meetings throughout the year. In partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), these events are an excellent opportunity to learn about regional and national STEM updates. You can join the listserv HERE.

The next STEM Coalition meeting will be on Thursday, March11, from 4-5 PM. The topic will be "Stakeholder Engagement and Communication Strategies." This is the Zoom link, and preregistration is not required. Please email Betsy Payne for details.

Philadelphia STEM Ecosystem &
Philadelphia STEM Equity Collective

The Philadelphia STEM Ecosystem is one of 89 national STEM Ecosystems and convenes STEM stakeholders to increase collaboration, coordination, and access.

In partnership with GSK. The Philadelphia STEM Equity Collective is a 10-year initiative that seeks to increase the number of individuals from underrepresented populations entering STEM careers.

Philadelphia STEM Education Directories

The Philadelphia STEM Ecosystem just launched its new STEM Education Directory. The Program Directory lists out-of-school time STEM activities for Pre-K-12 children and youth in the Philadelphia area. The PD Directory includes STEM PD offerings for both classroom teachers and informal educators. We continue to accept listings for both. The Field Guide to Citizen Science

Congratulations to Philadelphia STEM Ecosystem member Darlene Cavalier, on the publication of her new book The Field Guide to Citizen Science. Darlene, the Founder of SciStarter, writes about how monitoring the night sky, mapping trees, photographing dragonflies, and identifying mushrooms can help save the world.

Three McKinney Center UPenn Students

The McKinney Center is pleased to have three UPenn students working with us on multiple STEM projects. Manasa Sudunagunta is a sophomore, studying Geology and Economics. Jasmine Lin is a first-year student at the Fels Institute of Government, pursuing a Master of Public Administration. And Caroline Benson is a first year nurse anesthesia student at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in May 2023 with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice. Welcome, our wonderful women in STEM!
