Eligibility Center Updates
NAIA Members,

As the school year gets underway, we want to make you aware that the eligibility center has two important deadlines approaching:

1. The ability to vouch for a student will conclude on September 27, 2019. The voucher process was intended to be a temporary option to help ensure eligible students were able to play this fall. Now that the fall season is underway, the eligibility center needs to focus on helping the vouched-for students complete the decision process.

This means that institutions will no longer have the ability to enter a new voucher in NAIAHelp after Sept. 27. However, students who are already entered in ECP as being vouched for by Sept. 27 can continue with a voucher, provided they meet the voucher stipulations.

2. Beginning October 1, 2019, annual cancellations (previously referred to as inactivation) will begin for students with fall 2019 applications for fall sports. Applications will be cancelled only for students who:
  • are registered for a fall 2019 application,
  • are registered for only fall sport(s)
  • have not completed a task since September 1, and
  • are not yet in line for review.
In other words, students who are registered for fall sports and have taken no recent action in PlayNAIA will have their applications cancelled.

If an institution initiates a reapplication on behalf of the student after October 1, the student may be subject to an additional fee if their registration type has changed. Registration fees in the new PlayNAIA are assessed based on the student's type for the current term for decision. Students who originally registered as a U.S. freshman without a break and then reapply will be required to pay the difference between the original "no-break" application type and their new "break" application type.

International students and student who previously registered as a "break" will not be affected when reapplying, as their student types do not change.

We encourage all freshman enrolled in the fall immediately after high school graduation to get their decisions in the fall, even if they are spring sport athletes. Getting eligible in the fall ensures the student does not need to submit college transcripts after the conclusion of the fall semester.

Reminder, the process for reapplication is:
  • an NAIA institution initiates a reapplication for the student's previously cancelled application and
  • the student must login to their account and enter in any new information that has changed since their last application, fully submitting their "Complete my profile" task.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Ellen Ramsey
