March 2, 2021
The Seattle Education Association is the voice for educators and our students, standing united to address the needs of our community during this pandemic and to transform our district into an anti-racist school system where every student thrives.
ACT NOW!
1. If you have not already taken the SEA Commitment Survey to Inform Bargaining, please do so now. Your voice is important to the bargain. It takes on average 4 minutes.
2. SEA will be hosting a meeting for all members who were deemed “essential” by Supt. Juneau this Thursday, March 4, at 6:30pm. If this is you, please mark your calendar and keep an eye out for an email inviting you to this event.

3. There is a Special Representative Assembly this Wednesday, March 3, 5:00pm, to consider two recommendations from the SEA Board of Directors:

  • Monday night the SEA Board overwhelmingly recommended a vote of no confidence in Superintendent Juneau to our Representative Assembly based on the District's current bad-faith, bullying tactics in an attempt to force a reopening without reaching an agreement first.

  • The SEA Board also overwhelmingly recommended that we “stay the course” in response to the District’s illegal mandate. What that means is- we are recommending that all SEA-represented employees continue with their current job responsibilities as outlined in the current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) until a new agreement is reached. In other words, educators who have been working remotely, continue to do so despite Superintendent Juneau’s decision.

  • At this Special Rep Assembly, we will also discuss other responses we’re organizing this week with the goal of pressuring Superintendent Juneau to 1) to rescind her heavy-handed tactic to essentialize staff and 2) to instruct the SPS bargaining team to refocus their energy on the current negotiations to reach a good faith agreement.

4. Read the Frequently Asked Questions document linked here to understand leaves and accommodations.
5. Save the date! Our Contract Action Team is coordinating a solidarity event for this Saturday, March 6, 10:30am. More details to come – stay tuned!
