The Woman's Film - Rare Screening and Talk with Makers
Produced collectively by women, The Woman's Film documentary is a valuable historical document of the origins of the modern women's movement in the United States. The film delves into the lives of ordinary women from different races, educational levels and class. Filmed mostly in small consciousness-raising groups, from which the women's movement grew, the women talk about the daily realities of their lives as wives, home-makers, and workers. They speak, sometimes with hesitancy, often with passion, about the oppression of women as they see it.

THE WOMAN'S FILM was made entirely by women in San Francisco Newsreel. It was a collective effort between the women behind the camera and those in front of it. The script itself was written from preliminary interviews with the women in the film. Their participation, their criticism, and approval were sought at various stages of production.

Thanks to the generous contribution of The Women’s Film Preservation Fund of New York Women in Film & Television, THE WOMAN'S FILM has been preserved.

THE PEOPLE UNITED
AVAILABLE ON THE CRITERION CHANNEL

Boston, 1978: It was an intense period of racial conflict over school bussing and escalating incidents of police brutality in the predominantly Black section of Roxbury. In the wake of growing racial tension and violence, 12 black women were brutally and mysteriously murdered within an 18-month period; their murders remained unsolved. There are moments in the history of any community when its people are sorely tested and the floodgates break. This film captures one of those moments and the community's united response.
FINDING CHRISTA
AVAILABLE ON THE CRITERION CHANNEL

This documentary presents a moving yet unsentimental view of motherhood and adoption. It explores the feelings surrounding the reunion of a young woman with her natural mother 20 years after being given up for adoption. The reunion is between filmmaker Camille Billops and her and her own daughter. Facing the re-encounter with mixed emotions, Billops interrogates her family and friends as well as her own motivations behind the decision. The result is an original and personal film that challenges societal biases about adoption and offers new insight on mother-daughter relationships.
CROCODILE CONSPIRACY
AVAILABLE ON THE CRITERION CHANNEL

This charming tale focuses on Willa Ledbetter, an African American middle-aged school teacher in Watts, and her longing to visit her parent's homeland of Cuba. In the face of unexpected political and familial pressures to forego her dream, Willa struggles to make her decision. The title of the film refers to the shape of the island - the crocodile being its national symbol - and the menace socialist Cuba represents to many people in Willa's world.
