A Study on Fragile X Syndrome is Seeking Participants
|
|
We would like to inform you about a new research study at Vanderbilt focused on the transition to adulthood for young adults with fragile X syndrome. The study is being conducted by Dr. Julie Lounds Taylor at the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center and two other sites across the United States.
The goal of the study is to learn more about how certain abilities (e.g. memory), certain types of experiences (e.g. interactions with family), and biology affect language abilities in adulthood for both males and females with fragile X syndrome. We are also interested in understanding how these factors and language/literacy skills affect the abilities of these young adults to function independently. Such information will help us suggest ways to improve teaching and therapy techniques for these individuals.
If you have a son or daughter with fragile X syndrome in or entering the last year of high school, you and your child are invited to participate in the study. You and your son or daughter will be asked to participate in 4 assessment visits over a 3-year period. Two visits will be completed at one of our study sites and two will be completed from home. During these visits some assessments will be done directly with your son/daughter, some assessments will be done directly with you, and we will ask you to provide some additional information about your son/daughter. Travel costs will be reimbursed, and families will receive a $200 honorarium for completing all parts of the study.

Parent Education Coordinator - Boise Office
Idaho Parents Unlimited, Inc., an organization that provides training, resources, support, and one to one assistance for parents of children with disabilities and special health care needs, as well as accessible and inclusive arts programming, is seeking a Parent Education Coordinator in the Boise office.
- Necessary skills: Strong knowledge of and experience with Idaho Special Education and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
- Must be comfortable with making presentations and public speaking.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of health care/medical/insurance/Medicaid policies for children with special health care needs.
- Must have an understanding of family-centered care, family-engagement, and the importance of parent and professional collaboration.
- Must be highly resourceful.
- Must be professional and have an understanding of privacy laws and ethical guidelines.
- Additional helpful skills: Knowledge of community resources and/or experience with arts education and accessibility.
- Bilingual a plus
- Must be a resident in the State of Idaho
- This position will be working from our Boise office
While the general position hours are set between 9-5 on weekdays, due to training workshops, the position requires flexibility and will include evenings, weekends, and extensive travel both in-state and out-of-state.
Approximately 30-40 hours per week / $13-14.00 per hour. DOE.

Title V Needs Assessment Survey
|

We are sharing this survey from the Idaho Maternal and Child Health program in Idaho:
The Title V Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Block Grant Program is one of the largest federal block grant programs and the longest standing public health legislation with the goal of improving the health and well-being of mothers, infants, and children, including children and youth with special health care needs. The Title V MCH Block Grant Program is administered by the Division of Public Health – Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW).
Every five years, Idaho conducts a comprehensive, statewide needs assessment to collect information and input related to existing services and programs, population needs, gaps and barriers in care, health status, and emerging issues for MCH populations to assure that the MCH Program is guided by the unique needs of Idaho. The IDHW has partnered with the Center for Health Policy at Boise State University to conduct the needs assessment and this survey is one tool to help collect this important information. You are being invited to take this survey because we value your opinion and views on the health needs of individuals and communities throughout Idaho.
We have included a short online survey (link provided below) and hope you will complete it. The survey will be available for your response until September 13, 2019. Your participation in the survey is voluntary, and your answers will be anonymous and confidential. We will be using the results to inform MCH programming to identify potential collaborations and address gaps in services. Please feel free to forward this information and survey to other key stakeholders, as we would appreciate the additional input. Thank you!
