The American School Project Invited to Author Installation at 2018 Venice Biennale

For nearly fifty years, the Venice Architecture Biennale has been the most important international exhibition venue for contemporary architecture. The Biennale draws hundreds of thousands of architects, critics, designers, students, and architecture aficionados to the city every other year to survey the latest in design on view throughout sites, gardens, and palazzi across the city. The University of Oklahoma College of Architecture has been invited by the Global Art Affairs Foundation (GAA) to author an installation on the American School at the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale, which runs from May to November. The American School Project aims to celebrate the long-overlooked history of the truly original design pedagogy and practices that emerged at OU in the 1940s under the leadership of Bruce Goff, Herb Greene, and others, while continuing to inspire architectural practice around the world today.
An installation in the Venice Architecture Biennale allows the OU College of Architecture to reassert its position in architectural history.

3D Laser Scan of Prairie House Completed

The American School team recently toured a 3D laser scan of Herb Greene's Prairie House, produced by the Ross Group. The scan will be used to produce a virtual reality experience of the house for the American School exhibition. In addition, it contributes to the American School Project's digital historic preservation initiative to document the legacy of American School design using emerging technologies.

Students Design American School Costumes

Students enrolled in Prof. Luca Guido's American School seminar recently celebrated Halloween by designing--and wearing--American School-inspired costumes. Can you spot the Ledbetter House, Bavinger House, and Prairie House among the costumes featured above? During the Spring 2018 semester, Guido will co-lead a course in which students will design the Venice Biennale American School exhibit.

Overstreet's Stunning Corte Madera Home Featured on Curbed

American School alumnus Robert Overstreet's (B.Arch '54) stunning Corte Madera home was recently featured on the real-estate blog,  Curbed. Overstreet completed the 4,517 square foot home, which is sensitively embedded among the trees, in 1968. Since then, it has garnered media attention, with the New York Times writing that "The structure is a percussion instrument." To view photos of the home, click here.
