Dear St. Joseph Elementary School Families,

What a week we have had here at St. Joseph Elementary School! Academics are fully underway now, students are settling nicely into their new classrooms and routines, and the Positive energy around the school is palpable.

As you know, when I began my Vision planning for the 2019-2020 school year, I selected the theme of Positivity. I knew I needed to create a plan for how to make the tangible and actionable for our students here at school. So, I am excited to share with you that every trimester, our students and staff are focusing on a Positive topic. Our topic for Trimester 1 is “Kindness.” You can see this topic all over our school right now! I introduced our focus on Kindness to the students at Town Hall last week with the video attached below. During our first Faith Family activity this week, our students made posters about what Kindness looks like and means to them. In the classrooms, students can earn “Kindness Coins” and “Caught Being Kind” awards when their teachers catch them demonstrating acts of Kindness toward others. This helps us spread Kindness and Positivity throughout our school community. Seeing how proud our students are as they earn their Kindness Coins, and seeing how our SJES students and staff have embraced our focus on Kindness and Positivity, truly warms my heart! Thank you to you as parents for supporting an encouraging our message at home as well.

I look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night next week on Thursday, 9/5/19 at 6:30pm. There are so many Positive things happening here at SJES, and we can’t wait to share more with you next week.

Peace and Blessings,

Ms. Francisco

Gently used items are welcome.

We are also asking families to please donate one bag of candy (no chocolate and nuts) for the Sweets Walk booth.

All donations can be placed in the boxes located under the table outside of the school office.

Additionally, students in TK-5 must donate two cakes (preferebly homemade) on the event day.

Sacrament Preparation Isn’t Just for Children
If you are Catholic  and have never received the sacrament of Confirmation, now might be the time! Confirmation of adult Catholics is celebrated at the Cathedral of Christ the Light in February, and preparation classes are offered here on Thursday nights starting October 17.

If you’re baptized in a different Christian tradition  and want to become Catholic, or Catholic but have not yet received the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist, a combination of RCIA (the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) sessions on Tuesdays (ongoing now) and Adult Confirmation starting in October could help you become a “fully initiated” Catholic.

If you are not baptized  but are interested in learning more about Jesus and the Catholic faith, RCIA inquiry sessions on Wednesdays are a great place to start.

All sessions are 7:30 to 9pm; most are in the St. Joseph Parish Center at 1119 Lafayette Street.  Information available online about  Adult Confirmation  and  RCIA , or contact Anne Marie Fourré at  afourre@sjbalameda.org  or 510-995-9409.
Join the CIA
Christ in Action Performing Arts
Enhance the Sunday liturgy experience through the monthly Family Mass at 9:30am, as children bring the Gospel to life through drama, song and movement. Directed by Carmyn Manibusan Amaya and assisted by St. Joseph Elementary School’s own Sierra Dominguez.
Children between the ages of 4 and 13 are invited to join our new CIA (Christ in Action Performing Arts Ministry.) They will experience the joy of the Lord through lifting their hands and moving their feet in praise to Him, bring the Gospel to life through skits, and work with the Children’s Choir through music and movement.
Practice is held on Tuesdays, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm in the Basilica beginning September 10, with one rehearsal the day before each Family Mass. Participation in the Family Mass begins on October 13.
