Centering Prayer is a simple method of silent meditation which cultivates inner peace and helps us be more aware of the presence and activity of God in our lives.
We begin with twenty minutes of meditation (or "resting in God") followed by a short time of sharing about our practice, and then we finish by reading from a book about Centering Prayer.

Holy Caffeine to Read The Screwtape Letters
Beginning on Friday, September 13
Holy Caffeine, a study of the Bible for all ages, meets on Fridays from 8:30-9:30AM in the Lea Room at Church on the Hill. After seven years of reading various books from Scripture, we are beginning this year by reading The Screwtape Letters, the book that introduced the world to the Christian writing of C.S. Lewis. Published in 1941, the book is still in print due to its masterful understanding of how our spiritual lives both work and don't work.
The premise of the book is that Screwtape, a senior tempter from Hell, writes letters to his underling Wormwood, a junior tempter recently assigned his first 'patient'. Wormwood schools him along the way as to how he can best win souls away from God, revealing clearly along the way how God works in our lives. Reading this material from the enemy's point of view provides a colorful and creative way to introduce the reader to various aspects of living a life in communion with the Divine.
In addition to the book, readily available in paperback, we will be using a remarkable study guide written by a Lewis devotee which will be available to the class on the first day, Friday, September 13th.
This discussion group meets Friday mornings from 8:30-9:30AM in the Lea Room. Christopher Powell leads the group in the study and discussion of scripture. All are welcome! For more information, contact Christopher at 847-868-5611.
