The City of Coral Gables Emergency Management personnel is actively monitoring the path of Hurricane Dorian, now a Category 2, which is gaining strength over the Atlantic waters. According to the National Hurricane Center, Dorian is expected to become a major hurricane later today.

The City of Coral Gables is on ready mode and is preparing to handle this emergency to protect your life and property.  A Hurricane Watch or Warning may be expected over the weekend for South Florida. Stay tuned to your local weather forecasts for the most recent updates.
Weathering the Storm: Hurricane Dorian
Residents Share the Responsibility to be Prepared
The City of Coral Gables is watching the latest weather developments that may affect our area. As a Coral Gables resident, you must be ready to be on your own for the first 72 hours after the arrival of the storm. Here's how you can help:

Stay connected:

Do Not Do Tree Trimmings at the Last Minute
The City will continue its regular garbage, trash and recycling collection schedule until today, Friday, August 30. Please do not put additional last-minute tree trimmings for pickup this Saturday or Sunday, as City Sanitation crews will NOT be collecting. You are responsible for making your own arrangements for the disposal of any extra waste beyond today’s collection. For your own safety and that of your neighbors, do not place any objects on the swales that could become dangerous projectiles. Weather permitting, regular collection services MAY resume on Monday or Tuesday, depending on the path of Hurricane Dorian. Stay tuned for further updates.

Know Your Storm Surge Zone
Take this time to find out your Storm Surge Zone. There are 5 zones, marked A through E, depending on where you live, which could be potentially affected by a storm surge. Evacuation decisions are predicated on storm surge planning. These planning zones deal strictly with storm surge, not your flood zone. We will let you know if Evacuations orders are issued. In the meantime, check your zone now .

If a Hurricane Warning is Issued
It means it’s time to secure your home with hurricane shutters. Bring patio furniture, garbage cans, and anything that could become a projectile inside; they could become dangerous in high winds. Ensure you have food, water, and medications for each person in your home for seven days. Make sure you have a flashlight, extra batteries, and first aid supplies. Fill your bathtubs with water to use for flushing the toilet. If you’re told to evacuate, do so immediately! If you stay, you will put your life AND the lives of first-responders at risk. Seek shelter with a friend or relative. Use a public shelter only as a last resort. Check the City’s emergency communications for further updates on what to do.

Only when a Hurricane Warning is issued, the City-operated municipal parking garages will open the gates for Coral Gables residents or existing parking permit holders to secure their vehicles on higher grounds. This service is available on a first-come, first-served basis until maximum capacity is reached. This free service is offered at the owner’s own risk. Parking attendants will ask for proper identification to allow entrance to the garages. The following parking locations will open: Garage 1: 245 Andalusia Avenue, Garage 2: 220 Aragon Avenue, Garage 4: 345 Andalusia Avenue and Garage 6: 51 Aragon Avenue. Vehicles can remain parked up to 48 hours after the storm free of charge. If left unattended beyond this time, parking violations will be issued and regular rates apply. This arrangement DOES NOT include parking in privately-run garages.
