Preparations are being made, casseroles are being planned and music is being practice - it's time for this year's Open Door Churches annual Worship & Celebration Potluck Picnic.

Pastors Wendy and Dan, Sandy, Alyssa and Mario will lead us in worship along with our combined choirs and praise bands.

After worship, we'll share a potluck lunch along with games & activities. Ice water, silverware, & plates are all provided.  Besides bringing your potluck dish (with the ingredients marked), bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on, outdoor games (if you have one), a sun hat and sunscreen.

Mark your calendars and plan to join in the fun and special time of worship.  As was the case last year, there will be no worship services held at Morningside that day.  See you at the park!

MUMC Yard Angels Work Day
Sat., September 7th, 9:00 AM to Noon

Welcome to any and all willing volunteers! The Trustees have just a little bit of yard work to do and, if yard work is not your thing, we have some exterior window frames that need to be sanded and painted.

It has been a while since the last painting and some are looking a bit cracked and will need to be sealed for the winter. We promise good people, good weather (fingers crossed) and good snacks. Would love to see you, anytime you can help, between 9 and 12 Saturday morning, Sept. 7.

Thanks so much,
The Trustees

White Fragility: Why It's so Hard for White People to Talk About Racism
In this 2018 book, antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to bad people. Referring to the defensive moves that white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt, and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent any meaningful cross-racial dialogue. In this in-depth exploration, DiAngelo examines how white fragility develops, how it protects racial inequality, and what we can do to engage more constructively in this important dialogue. Solar Panel Project Update
Fred Cooper, MUMC Project Representative

We are entering the final stages of this project.

1. Phase 1 (Upgrades to Education Wing Roof including shingles and vent upgrades necessary to meet code prior to solar panel installation)

Challenge: We need to raise $20,000

Good News: The foundation will match what the congregation raises up to $20,000. In the last week we have gotten $3,490 so we have achieved about 35% of our goal. We can do this!

2. Phase 2 (installation of Solar Panels): This cost (and our fundraising goals) will be determined after we find out the results of the 3 Grants for which we applied.  We'll keep you posted in the coming weeks.

Thanks in advance for your support of this project and remember to put "Solar Project" on your donation.
- Parent's Night Out -
Getting Ready for the New Season!
Begins Friday, Oct. 11th, 6 PM

As we look forward to school beginning in a few weeks, we begin planning for one of Morningside's most successful outreach programs - Parents Night Out.

The program runs October to May, on the 2nd Friday night of the month.  It offers Morningside neighbors a safe and fun place to drop-off their kids, giving parents a well-deserved night out.

To make that happen, though, we need volunteers to help out. If you can spare one evening a month and enjoy working with kids, we could use your help!

We need people to:
  • Check in and register kids
  • Help in the nursery with the little ones
  • Work in the kitchen preparing and serving food
  • Organizing and leading games and activities

If you are able to help out, sign up on the Wall of Helping Hands in the main hallway or talk with Christopher.
