Over the past five years, the IYO has explored Ecuador (2014-15), South Africa (2015-16), South Korea (2016-17), Bosnia-Herzegovina (2017-18), and Cuba (2019-20), providing opportunities for faculty, staff, students, and community members to study each country’s culture, history, and relevance to the United States. The IYO Revisited will encourage reflection on and engagement with each past country, digging deeper into connections that were built during each IYO and prompting new explorations in each region.
Despite its broader focus, core aspects of the IYO will remain unchanged. “As with past IYO’s, the program will focus on academic courses with international content, events to supplement the curriculum, and community reach through partnerships with local business and organizations,” said Lauren Reyes, Program Coordinator in GLIA. Through courses across a wide variety of departments that feature content tailored to specific countries, the IYO Revisited will enable students to learn about each country through the lens of their own discipline.
