Public Charge Changes

The NASW-FL Immigration Justice Task Force opposes the new rule to public charge that will go into effect October 15, 2019.   The Task Force provided a few documents below to assist social workers on this issue so that we, as social workers, can be at the forefront of protecting people's rights to healthcare, food and housing.

Student Representatives Column
Hello Everyone!

My name is Ashton Sanchez. I am about to enter my second to last semester for my Master of Social Work degree from Florida State University. I am ecstatic to be elected your MSW Student Representative for the NASW-FL Board for the 2019-2020 year.

As your MSW representative, I am passionate about school and continuing education. I hope that you take advantage of this organization, as there are a plethora of networking opportunities and educational events to help you to become the best possible social worker you can be. As you further your education and continue to grow in your career, it will be fundamental to ensure that you are sharing your knowledge with fellow students and social workers. By sticking together, we will be able to not only better ourselves, but better others around us.

I encourage all students to explore these opportunities and to reach out to your local unit. I am available to offer any information or advice on how to best go about this. My email is ars12f@my.fsu.edu.

I look forward to hearing from many of you.

Thank you,
Ashton Sanchez
MSW Student Representative

My name is Ashley Rodriguez, and I am an undergraduate student at Warner University. I am so thankful to be elected your BSW Student Representative for the 2019-2020 year, and I am excited for what this year has to bring!

My goal as the BSW Student Representative is to have more of my undergraduate peers become a part of NASW-FL. Becoming a part of the NASW family can help you have your first step into the profession and it can help you connect with other mentors

I would also love to be a voice for as many undergraduate students who are willing to share concerns and bring attention to them. I can be contacted via email at  ashley.rodriguez@warner.edu

Thank you,
Ashley Rodriguez
BSW Student Representative

Member Referral Campaign

July 2019 - October 2019

The National Association of Social Workers is proud to represent social workers across our nation. Together, we've accomplished much for our profession and the people we serve during the past 60 years. But to successfully address today's pressing social issues - mental health, addiction, gun violence, sexual and domestic violence, immigration, poverty, homelessness, voters' rights, criminal justice, environmental justice - we must grow our resources and make our voice even louder

Please participate and to show our appreciation and gratitude for helping to grow the association and make our voice louder, all those who successfully recruit members during the Member Referral campaign will be offered a special gift. Those recruited will be offered a gift, too.

General Facts about General Liability

General Liability insurance is important for you to own. Even if you have no office, or your employer already has a General Liability insurance policy. If you perform your services in any venue, there is a risk that your client will suffer a property loss like a stolen wallet for example and blame you. That can be your responsibility. Why? We'll get into that shortly.

The traditionally accepted definition of General Liability insurance is that it covers the insured for negligent acts and/or omissions, or acts during general operation of the business, that result in property damage and/or bodily injury while on the business premises.
