Nepal Foot Trimming Workshops - SIGN UP TODAY!

elephant foot trimming workshops

EAI believes that the way to create positive change for elephants is by respecting and involving the people who care for them every day.

That's why we offer our foot trimming workshops in Nepal and train Nepali mahouts, vet techs, veterinarians and wildlife tour guides side-by-side with elephant professionals from around the world. We may not all speak the same language and our cultural traditions may differ, but we meet in our shared passion for elephants and their welfare.

We invite you to apply for either or both of our two 2019 foot trimming workshops in Nepal:
  • November 11-15, 2019: Tiger Tops Elephant Camp, Amaltari
  • November 18-22, 2019: Sauraha
You will learn or improve your foot trimming skills, make new friends and have a unique chance to enter the lives of working Asian elephants and their mahouts.

Learn more about the workshops - or fill out an application .
Can't fly to Nepal to learn how to trim elephant feet but still want to contribute to lasting change for the country's working elephants? You can - by sponsoring a mahout's participation in our foot trimming workshops.

Mahouts are poorly paid and have few, if any, opportunities to improve their skills. But we can attest that they are eager to learn so they can take better care of their elephants.

Your $50 sponsorship will cover a mahout's room and board during the workshop, transportation to and from, a set of foot trimming tools to keep, hands-on instruction and a small stipend.

Think of your sponsorship as a gift that will keep on giving. When the mahout you sponsor returns home, s/he will be ready to teach other mahouts all s/he has learned, creating lasting change from the inside out.

Elephant Welfare: Words and Actions Matter

elephant tourism in Nepal

Shristi Shrestha is a mother, native of Nepal and staunch animal advocate who is bringing attention to the pain and suffering of elephants used in tourism in her country. In a recent Online Khabar article , she describes the harm elephants can suffer from their use in tourism. Her words are passionate, gutsy (elephant tourism is a powerful business in Nepal) and inspirational.

The power of Shristi's piece prompted EAI founder and CEO Carol Buckley to blog on the topic. Read her post, " How to Be a Responsible Ele-Tourist ," to learn about the power structure of the Asian tourism industry and the role tourists can play in improving elephant welfare.
As always, we greatly appreciate your interest, commitment, and help.
We would not be able to do any of this work without your continued support.
