ST. THERESE CAMPUS
DROP OFF AND PICK UP PROCEDURES

DROP OFF:
St. Therese School is open from 7:30a-3:35p. Students may be dropped off no earlier than 7:30am when adult supervision in the basement starts. Students may sit at the tables while waiting for school to start.

Please be aware that there is no safety patrol or adult supervision in front of the courtyard or school basement prior to 7:30AM. For the safety of all, no running or chasing is allowed in the basement or in the schoolyard. Students who run around may be given a detention.

St. Therese staff will be present to help direct traffic and to safely guide parents and students to school during arrival (7:30-8:00am) and dismissal (3:00-3:35 pm) times. EVERYONE must follow instruction of school staff, student traffic aids, and the City of Chicago traffic management personnel for the safety of all. REMEMBER adult behavior serves either as a good or bad model for our children.

  • Whenever possible, drop off your child(ren) on the curbside only. Students should exit vehicles onto the sidewalk - parents should not take out their child from the street side of the car - this is too dangerous and increases traffic.
  • Cross all street at the painted street/school crosswalks, where traffic aids are present and controlling traffic.
  • Do NOT drop off or pick up your child on Princeton Ave. - see circle on map below.
  • Follow traffic instructions of school staff and student traffic aids.
  • Everyone's cooperation is essential for safety of our children, families, staff, and neighbors.

Pick Up: PreK, Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten and 1st Grade students are picked up directly from their classroom. When the weather is nice, PreK, Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten and 1st Grade teachers will direct you to pick up your child outside. Grades 2-8 students are dismissed in the outside courtyard. Do NOT go the 2nd-8th Grade classroom to pick up your child.

When picking up or dropping off your child(ren), PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. THIS IS ILLEGAL.

Students are not allowed to remain on school property after student dismissal unless they are in the after school program or involved in a school sanctioned extracurricular activity on that day. Students who are not picked up will be directed to the after school program; parents will be charged a time block for after school supervision.

EARLY DISMISSAL: A minimum of 48 hours advance notice of an early dismissal (e.g., doctor's appointment) is appreciated. When picking up your child, go directly to the office and your child will be called from his/her classroom. DO NOT go to the classroom to get your child. Always go to the office first.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP PROCEDURES
Arrival - Drop Off Procedures

Pre-School and Junior Kindergarten - Students are dropped off at the Quinn Street Entrance (see above map). Early Childhood teachers will be at the doors to meet their students. Parents can walk students to the Early Childhood entrance to drop off in vestibule.

Kindergarten Through 8th Grade -   Enter the Throop Street parking lot through NORTH Gate (ENTRANCE ONLY) - see above map. Drivers follow the "single file line of traffic flow" in the drop off line. Student(s) exit your vehicle on the left-side (so students avoid walking around or between any vehicles). Drivers CANNOT exit the vehicle while in the drop off line . Students enter the school building at 7:30 am and immediately go to the basement. Drive carefully to the SOUTH Gate (EXIT ONLY) to leave the parking lot onto Throop St.

Dismissal - Pick Up Procedures

Pre-School and Junior Kindergarten Vehicles may park on Quinn Street for 5 minutes to pick up their student from the early childhood entrance. Parents must come in to pick up their children. Please be prompt in picking up and leaving with your child as other families will be picking up their children and there is limited space. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Parents also may also park in the South parking lot (entrance/exit on Quinn Street); if you do park in the South parking lot, be careful entering and leaving as children and other parents will be walking in the area. Also, be mindful that there are a limited number of parking spaces; so, do not take extended time when picking up your children.

Kindergarten Through 8th GradeEnter the Throop Street parking lot through NORTH Gate (ENTRANCE ONLY) - see above map. Be careful whenever you are driving in the parking lot (entering or exiting). Again, drivers MUST NOT use their phone when driving in the Parking Lot - NO EXCEPTIONS!

Park your vehicle in any of the empty available parking spaces. Walk to the student "Drop Off Zone", located next to the school's main entrance, to pick up your student. Students cannot walk through the parking lot to their cars. When leaving, drive carefully to the SOUTH Gate (EXIT ONLY) to leave the parking lot onto Throop St.
