The DC Chamber of Commerce salutes, honors and applauds its members in the fight against COVID-19
 
DC Chamber member organizations including their employees are providing critical services to combat the coronavirus pandemic. Doctors, nurses, technicians, drivers, custodians, receptionists, cashiers, stockers, delivery workers etc. are providing critical services and placing themselves in harm’s way everyday. The DC Chamber of Commerce salutes, honors and applauds its member organizations and their employees for service in protecting, caring for and healing mankind.

Johns Hopkins University has served as a lead source of statistical analysis information during this COVID-19 pandemic. The university provides the latest updates on the coronavirus statistics through the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center. Johns Hopkins takes its name from 19th-century Maryland philanthropist Johns Hopkins, an entrepreneur and abolitionist with Quaker roots who believed in improving public health and education in Baltimore and beyond. In 1876, under the guidance of the first president, Johns Hopkins university opened its campus and expanded its footprint to include the university press, the hospital, and the schools of nursing and medicine. The mission of John Hopkins has remained traditional since its origins. The mission is: "to educate its students and cultivate their capacity for lifelong learning, to foster independent and original research, and to bring the benefits of discovery to the world."

Sibley Memorial Hospital is an affiliate of Johns Hopkins Medicine. Located in Northwest Washington, D.C., Sibley maintains a distinguished history of serving the community since its founding in 1890. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sibley has updated its visitor’s policy in an effort to protect patients, staff members and the community. Visitors will not be permitted on the facilities with the exception of: the special care nursery, permitting two designated caregivers per patient; labor, delivery and post-partum, permitting one designated visitor; and end-of-life care permitting two visitors at a time. As a not-for-profit and full-service community hospital, Sibley continues to offer medical, surgical, intensive care, obstetric, oncology, orthopaedic and skilled nursing inpatient services, as well as a 24-hour Emergency Department. Sibley’s campus is also home to Grand Oaks, an assisted living residence; a medical building with physician offices and ambulatory surgery and imaging centers; and the new patient tower with 200 spacious, private rooms. Sibley Memorial Hospital vows to be the role model for innovation in health care and wellness for all. In service for over 80 years, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield is a not-for-profit, non-stock health services company which, through its affiliates and subsidiaries, offers a comprehensive portfolio of products and administrative services to individuals and groups in Maryland, the District of Columbia and portions of Northern Virginia. CareFirst engaged more than 60 organizations to understand the most critical needs arising from COVID-19. During this process, CareFirst enlisted insight from representatives of Federally Qualified Health Centers, hospitals, direct service organizations, community and private foundations, corporate funders, and more. As a result, CareFirst has earmarked an initial investment of $2 million to aid the immediate health, social and economic needs of all communities affected. CareFirst will do this through two rounds of funding. In this first round of funding, health and social needs will be addressed. In the second round of funding, social and economic needs will be addressed.

Kaiser has treated many of its COVID-19 patients, and continue to monitor the health of the community as the pandemic evolves. They are also working closely with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), federal, state, and local agencies on the latest recommendations and prevention practices. Doctors and employees who are working with patients suspected or confirmed of COVID-19, or in areas with COVID-19 patients, wear an isolation/procedure mask, disposable gowns, gloves, and protective eyewear (such as goggles or face shields).

DC Health Link is governed by the DC Health Benefit Exchange Executive Board appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the District of Columbia Council. DC Health Link was created and is governed by the DC Health Benefit Exchange Authority (HBX). The HBX was established as a requirement of Section 3 of the Health Benefit Exchange Authority Establishment Act of 2011, effective March 3, 2012 (D.C. Law 19-0094). The mission of the DC Health Benefit Exchange Authority is to implement a health care exchange program in the District of Columbia in accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), thereby ensuring access to quality and affordable health care to all DC residents. DC Health Link is the name of the DC Health Benefit Exchange program. Even amid the current COVID-19 pandemic, DC Health Link continues to work with employers and individuals to provide affordable options for basic healthcare which is critical to the survival of our citizens at this time. 

Prestige Healthcare Resources, Inc., the DC Chamber of Commerce's 2020 Small Business of the Year , offers steps toward stability for adults throughout the Washington DC area with chronic mental challenges and issues, who are having challenges coping and managing through crisis. In addition, Prestige offers in-home care providers and assistance. They work closely with hospitals and facilities across the country, delivering innovative solutions that meet their staffing needs, as well. These services are also available for the homeless. They offer web-based Telehealth video counseling using a computer or portable device (tablet/smartphone) with webcam, microphone, and speakers. During this global health crisis during this global Coronavirus pandemic, Prestige is taking the steps to deliver the knowledge and resources to get us though this crucial point in history.

MedStar Health at Georgetown University employs clinicians who are prepared to accurately screen for risk of COVID-19 and respond immediately to prevent further spread. They are also following the guidance of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) so that patients affected by COVID-19 will be able to get the care they need while protecting the health and safety of Medstar associates and the community at large. The health of Medstar’s patients, physicians, staff and visitors is a top priority. MedStar Health at Georgetown University maintains a constant state of readiness to respond to complex illnesses, including the recent coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.
Howard University Hospital continues to closely monitor the spread of COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus, as additional cases are confirmed in the United States and other countries. The World Health Organization has declared the coronavirus a pandemic with more than 1.3 Million cases in the U.S. and growing clusters of the disease forcing many Americans to change their daily lives. Leaders over at Howard University believe COVID-19 has highlighted the need to focus on the building blocks of health, from a local and national perspective. In an effort to protect its students, the University shifted courses to online and remote instruction following March 23, 2020 through the remainder of the semester. Howard University Faculty Practice Plan, in partnership with Bank of America, has opened a free COVID-19 testing site in an effort to serve D.C. communities. Additionally, Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick M.D., MBA, will serve as co-chair of the Equity, Disparity Reduction, Vulnerable Populations Subcommittee for the newly created Reopen DC initiative.
The George Washington University Hospital stands ready and prepared to meet all your healthcare needs throughout this time. Since January 2020, George Washington has been collaborating closely across the GW Medical Enterprise, in partnership with the D.C. Department of Health and the CDC to monitor and respond to COVID-19. The George Washington University Hospital has put in place a number of protocols and practices, based on CDC recommendations, in order to enhance the safety of all their patients and staff. This has included significantly restricting visitors and conducting temperature and travel screenings on all who enter the facility. In addition, all patients are undergoing COVID-19 testing and all staff are currently following CDC recommendations to wear face masks while present in their facilities.
Furthermore, the GW Hospital team regularly cares for highly infectious diseases and continues to follow these best practice guidelines with regard to identifying, isolating and caring for COVID-19 patients, as well as other patients with potentially infectious disease. The GW Medical Enterprise is offering drive-through testing for COVID-19 and walk-up options for patients without a car. Testing will only be conducted by appointment, after a physician has spoken with the patient and has deemed a test is appropriate.
