Introduction of Project Team
The local engineering firm of AECOM is conducting the Corridor Study and developing the corridor plan for the City.
Local resident Jason Bonini is the AEOM project engineer
leading the study team. He presented the corridor plan process that included traffic analysis, utility research, drainage research, bridge evaluation, geotechnical investigation, environmental assessment, roadway layout, corridor preservation, access management and implementation plan. The project focuses on what Black Forest Road needs to look like long-term as well as in the interim, with considerations of wider-paved shoulders, sidewalks, how to best widen the road, multi-modal options and a 10-foot multi-use path on one side of the road.
Todd Frisbie, City of Colorado Springs traffic engineer,
spoke about traffic and operations. He shared the traffic study that shows a 20-year traffic count throughout the corridor from 22,000 – 30,000 vehicles per day in the portion of the corridor that will be constructed next year based on projected development and population. He presented information about multi-modal accommodations, as well as the future road network including connections of Marksheffel Road, Briargate Parkway and Stapleton Drive.
