The Women's Fund's focus on economic security for young women resulted in a 2018 grant to LEAVEN for the Young Women’s Emergency Assistance Fund. This program provided financial assistance, case management, and referrals to 45 households headed by 18 to 29-year-old women who were struggling to meet their basic needs.
LEAVEN stabilizes and empowers people in financial crisis to address their near-term and long-term basic needs. The organization provides these services to residents in Outagamie, Calumet and northern Winnebago counties who are struggling to meet their basic needs.
The grant enabled LEAVEN to more quickly identify the young women who qualified and to expedite provision of the fund to assist them and their 56 minor-aged children.
As a result, 20 women received rental assistance averaging about $232; 7 women received help with security deposits averaging $250; 17 women received utility assistance averaging about $200, and one individual received $250 towards car repairs that enabled her to transport her child and her to get to work.
“On behalf of the 45 young women and 56 minor children helped through the Women’s Fund, thank you! “ says LEAVEN Executive Director Mary Parsons. In partnership with the Women's Fund, LEAVEN stabilized these struggling households, reducing the financial stress that can have such a profound effect on the mental and physical health of children.
