S.T.E.A.M. Lab
Welcome back to RMBA!! We are so excited to be starting off a new year in STEAM! A huge thank you to PTO for your donations to the STEAM lab. We look forward to introducing new tools to the kids.
This week some of ours students got a chance to explore our STEAM lab and get to know what we are all about. Looking forward to our first full week back when both Early Childhood and Lower Elementary School students will get to come learn in our lab!

100 Questions
Eighth-graders in Mr. Duke's U.S. history class made a patriotic start to the new school year by having the opportunity to see if folks on campus could pass the U.S. citizenship naturalization test. Willing participants allowed the students to video their responses, which then will be complied for class review. Later this semester, the students will take a field trip to witness a naturalization ceremony. By the end of this course, the students will have learned the correct answers—and the concepts behind them—to the 100-question U.S. citizenship naturalization test.
In addition, eighth-graders took time during their first U.S. history class to learn about the 400th anniversary of the slave trade in the United States. Together, the class debated the question: Should the U.S. apologize for slavery? The students' first homework assignment is to write a short essay about how the legacy of slavery, 400 years later, impacts American society today.

Mystery Bags
Mrs. Schneider's 1st Grade class had a fun first day! Mystery bags were placed around the class. Each student counted the mystery objects and recorded the quantity on their paper. Objects included seashells, coins, crayons, and various other objects. What a fun way to review counting!

Adventure Awaits
Our Early Childhood and Lower School Back to School social took place on Tuesday, welcoming our younger students back to school. Students and their families had a great time painting class canvases, creating log magnets, and having fun in the photo booth. Pictured above (l-r) are our school counselors Michelle Renfrow (upper school counselor) and Stacey Laves-Khalifa (lower school counselor) who couldn't resist the fun!

Teacher Training
Last week during our teacher in-service training Amy Lierman from the Parish School worked with our Early Childhood (ECE) teachers to develop their skills in Speech and Language support. ECE teachers at RMBA receive 24 hours of training each year in early childhood practices. Additionally, smart-board guru Al Wolmer came to RMBA from Atlanta to train ALL our teachers in the use of Smart Boards and best ways to incorporate them into the curriculum.

Flags of the World
Students in Mr. Duke's 6th grade Cultural Geography class disembarked on their tour of the world by learning about the symbolism behind national flags. They considered how choice of colors, shapes and motifs on flags serve as cultural signifiers. After studying a selection of national flags, the students then were challenged to create flag designs of their own, containing symbols and values that are important to them. In order to make their own flags, the students traveled to RMBA's art lab where Ms. Bryant gave them a crash course in how to silkscreen.

My name is
Students in Morah Aviva's and Morah Regina's ECE4 class had a great first day at school! The students spent the day getting to know each other, adjusting to the classroom routines, learning about the various centers in the room, and familiarizing themselves with Tefila (prayers) and the Calendar Circle. Students had a great time tracing over their names with markers and dots!

Name Game
Students in Ms. Rowan's, Ms. Massey's, and Ms. Jillian's lower Montessori class got to know each other by playing a fun name game on the first day of school. Students first learned a beat that included clapping, tapping, and stomping, and then learned everyone's names by continuously singing and repeating them. It was a fun ice breaker during which everyone got to know each other.
