A Message from Debbie Wagner, CEO

During this season of gratitude I am continually touched by the service and generosity of our amazing partners, sponsors, donors, Board and staff of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson. This month's newsletter highlights just some of the amazing ways that generous individuals and organizations have come together with our team to support our special youth and vital BGCT programs including serving over 2000 Thanksgiving meals to our youth and their families, shopping for new clothes with 120 of our kids at the annual TEP shopping spree at Kohls and supporting our Clubhouse holiday parties with a financial gift or collecting gifts.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all of you for these successes and many more like them throughout 2017, as they could not be possible without you.

As individuals and as a society, community service is an important measure of our progress. Without it, the quality of all of our lives would suffer. Giving back is a vital experience for those who choose to serve, as well as for our youth and families who benefit from it.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed it's the only thing that ever has."  Magaret Mead

Please continue to light the way for our youth. Join us this month and into the new year through one or all of the many opportunities available to create "Great Futures!"

Have a wonderful holiday season.
Debbie Wagner, CEO

Thanksgiving at the Clubs

Thanksgiving at the Clubs is truly a time of celebration. It's a time for our Club members and their families to come together, create memories, and enjoy a fun evening of family-time, laughter, games, music, and of course a lovely Thanksgiving dinner. It's also a time for our Partners, Board members, donors, staff and volunteers to come together and serve. Serve the youth that we are so passionate about, serve their families and to show them how much we care and how important they are. Here are a few highlights from Thanksgiving at the Clubs.

With your help, we served over 2,000 meals this year at our six Clubhouses.

Thank you to all who made Thanksgiving 2017 possible:

Bank of the West
Catalina Rotary Club
Geico
NOVA Home Loans
Safelite AutoGlass
Southwest Gas
Taco Bell/Tacobocci
Tucson Local Media

...and a special thanks to all the staff who worked tirelessly to coordinate, plan, decorate and deliver six beautiful events.

Thanksgiving Dinner at the Clubs is an important part of serving our community and creating memories for our youth and their families, because for so many of our youth the Clubhouse is their home-away-from-home and their second family. Great futures really do start here.

Tucson Electric Power Brightens the Holiday Season for 120 Youth Club Members at 19th Annual Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson Shopping Spree

For 19 years, Tucson Electric Power has been committed to brightening the holidays for 120 deserving Boys & Girls Club Members and this year was no different.

Early on the morning of December 2nd, 100 of TEP community volunteers joined youth Club members to celebrate the gift of giving at the Kohl's Pantano and Broadway location. Through Tucson Electric Power's generous donation of $12,000, each child received funds to purchase new clothing and shoes for the holidays.

"This is our 19th year sponsoring and shopping with the youth, and it is one of our favorite volunteer projects," said Dave Hutchens, UNS Energy Corporation President. "The children have earned the holiday reward by being good students and leaders and participating in clubhouse activities, so we are delighted to partner with BGCT to reward their efforts."

Club Members were chosen to participate in the shopping spree based upon regular attendance, good behavior, program participation and commitment to community service.  "We are honored that a tremendous community corporate supporter, TEP, has once again stepped up to provide funding for this very special event for our kids.  The majority of our Club members come from disadvantaged circumstances and the shopping spree provides an opportunity to reward positive behavior, build self-esteem, and put smiles on their faces during the holiday season", said Debbie Wagner, Chief Executive Officer for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson.

Many thanks to TEP and its employees for making this event possible for our kids!
It's Starting to Look a lot like Santa's Workshop at the Clubs

During this time of year sometimes we get so busy we forget the meaning of the season. But here at the Clubs it's easy to be reminded of how blessed we are and how many people support the Clubs and its mission to create great futures. Let's just say, Santa's elves have been showing up a lot lately to ensure every Club member receives a gift and has a memorable holiday party at their Clubhouse this year.  It is truly a sight to see!

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank some of the elves! Many thanks to all those who have made the toy drive a success and to all the individuals and companies who have sponsored the holiday parties to be held at each Clubhouse next week.
