A message from Sarah Nisbet, director, BFA Board of Directors...
Dear Parents,
The results are in! We had an amazing 98 percent response rate for the Parent Survey this year.
Thank you to all our BFA parents who participated! See the results for yourself here. As always, the Board and administration will review the survey results to look for improvement opportunities. If you are interested in being a part of the committee that works on the Parent Satisfaction Survey, the
School Accountability Committee (SAC) is looking to fill several positions next year, including the chair and vice chair positions. Currently, they meet once a month after school (this year they met at 4:30 p.m.).
We appreciate all the parents who ran for the BFA Board of Directors this year. We had
six outstanding candidates and are grateful for their commitment to BFA and willingness to serve our community. The Parent Voting Group election period ended on Sunday, April 19, and the Board appointed two members at their meeting on Tuesday, April 21. The Board of Directors is proud to share the results of our 2020 Board Election as announced at the meeting on Tuesday, April 21.

INVITATION FOR BOYS AND GIRLS TO EXPLORE SCOUTING
Boys and girls interested in scouting are invited to learn more about Troop 870! Click
here to read an invitation from
BFA's own Eagle Scout, eighth grader Armen Kazazean. The troop meets Mondays via Zoom and they have a rank-up meeting on Wednesdays to work on requirements. Armen says that many kids join as 12-14 year-olds. Potential scouts must be 11 years old or have finished fifth grade, OR a Cub Scout who earned their AOL rank. Scouts is rewarding and FUN so we hope you'll read Armen's letter to find out more.

PTO ELECTIONS OPEN MONDAY
The PTO is an integral part of the BFA community. Since it began serving BFA, the PTO has raised funds to provide all manner of items for the school, including playground equipment, library books, a climbing wall, the outdoor classroom, and the MakerSpace as well as tools and resources needed by the teachers, staff and administration. In addition, they organize multiple social events to bring together the entire BFA community.
The mission of the PTO is to seek resources to strengthen, enhance, and encourage the educational and social experience at Ben Franklin Academy. Each year, the parent community is asked to vote for open executive officer and committee chair positions.

Monday, April 27, through Friday, May 1. Each family unit is permitted to cast one vote per position. Election results will be announced at the PTO meeting on Wednesday, May 6.

VOTE FOR BFA STUDENT'S T-SHIRT DESIGN!

Téa Sunahara submitted her artwork to Destination Imagination (DI) Colorado's T-shirt design contest for its 2020 shirts - and
voting is NOW open to determine which design will win! (Her design is alongside this article.) She would appreciate any votes/support from the BFA community for her design. The voting instructions are as follows:
- Click on the DI Colorado T-shirt Design Competition.
- Scroll through the designs; if you would like to vote for Téa's design, go to "Peak of Creativity" by Tea Sunahara.
- Click on the image.
- Scroll down to the purple "Vote Now!" bar, and click on it.
- Please note, if your screen says "Verify Vote!" instead of "Thanks for Your Vote" please enter your your email address in the box and click "Verify Vote."(Your email address will NOT be sold, shared with a third party or used for purposes other than vote confirmation.
One vote per email is allowed; to vote with more than one email address, it must be from a different IP address.
After the winning design is chosen, in conjunction with Out of the Blue Printing, DI Colorado will be selling the shirts as a fundraiser to benefit the DI organization in Colorado. Although our BFA teams were able to compete in the South Metro DI competition this year, the State Tournament and Global Finals competitions were cancelled because of COVID-19. DI is an international, educational program that gives kids an amazing outlet for their creativity, while teaching them leadership, teamwork, positive thinking, project management and so much more.

DCSD LOCAL RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES
DCSD has a webpage outlining various resources, including community resources to help with things like Medicaid, finding childcare, guidelines on leaving children at home, the updated serving locations/times for free lunch and breakfast, and more.

David A. Kelly, who recently visited BFA and spoke with some of our classes, is working on his new book and trying to support families who are remote learning. For the next six weeks he is hosting special Skype/Google Hangout visits between
10 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET on Wednesdays. You can sign up for them on his
