Are you interested in undergraduate research? We invite you to join us for "Discover Science" Thursday, August 22, from 4:30-5:30 pm on the third floor of the Life Sciences Building (LSB).

Learn about undergraduate research opportunities in the College of Science and hear from current undergrads about projects they're pursuing.

Meet undergraduate research coordinators from each College of Science department (Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Computer Science, Geosciences, Mathematics & Statistics and Physics) and find out how you can get started in research.

Additionally, enjoy some Aggie Ice Cream and a receive a new "Aggie Scientist" t-shirt!

Aggie Scientists throughout the college have been busy with a broad range of summer research, and many will continue as Fall Semester begins. A big “shout out” of congratulations to recipients of 2019 College of Science Minigrants: Noah Braeger (Math/Stats), Jared Bryan (Geosciences,Physics), Drake Comer (Chem/Biochem), Kaitlyn Crouch (Geosciences), Christian Lange (Physics), Anna Paulding (Geosciences), Carley Smith (Chem/Biochem) and Madison Taylor (Geosciences), as well as recipients of Fall 2019 Undergraduate Research and Creative Opportunities (URCO) grants: Nick Beus (Biology), Noah Braeger (Math/States), Kaitlyn Crouch (Geosciences), Michael Herron (Biology), Skadi Kobe (Geosciences) and Howard Montgomery (Biology).

The next round for URCO applications opens Oct. 1 and completed proposals are due Oct. 15.

Want to get involved in undergrad research, but not sure where to start? Contact the faculty research coordinator for your major for guidance.
Science Unwrapped, the college's science outreach program is in its 11th year of operation. Monthly lectures by USU faculty will coincide with this year's theme "Food for Thought", and students are encouraged to get involved with this valuable opportunity to gain experience with science outreach.

  • August 22 - Connections "Discover Science" Event: Learn about undergraduate research, involvement opportunities, and other college resources from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in the Life Sciences Building's third floor atrium
  • August 26 - First Day of Classes
  • August 26 through September 7 - USU Weeks of Welcome
  • August 30 - Last day to add classes without instructor's signature
  • September 2 - Labor Day: No fall classes, university offices closed
  • September 16 - Last day to add classes with instructor's signature and last day to drop classes without notation on transcript
  • September 20 - Science Unwrapped with Lance Seefeldt and Bruce Bugbee in ESLC 130 at 7 pm
  • September 27 - NCAR Scientist Vanda Grubisic Presents in Huntsman Hall 260 at 9:30 am
  • October 1 - URCO Application for Spring 2020 Opens
