JOIN SCC FOR CULTURAL COMPETENCY AND HEALTH LITERACY MASTER TRAINING
 The communities we serve are growing in cultural and linguistic diversity. There is a need to inspire cultural change within organizations.
On
Tuesday, September 24, 2019, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, SCC will be holding Cultural Competency and Health Literacy (CCHL) Master Training, an interactive program in which participants will have hands-on learning experience to build better communities.
Post-training, Master Trainers will receive a certificate of completion and will be able to provide training sessions. Master Trainers will be able to facilitate two different trainings: (1) 2 hour CCHL training sessions for workforce professionals and (2) 7.5 hour master training sessions for future master-trainers.
Participants must apply by end of business
Tuesday, September 10, 2019. Please note, completing the application does not confirm attendance to this program. Upon completing the application, you will receive follow up from a CCHL lead with next steps. For more information on the CCHL program

NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH WEBINAR
Serious Mental Illness/Substance Use Disorders and Tailoring Programs to Serve Women
On
Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at 1:30 pm a webinar developed by the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors, sponsored by SAMHSA will take place.
This webinar will explore how we currently care for women with co-occurring first episode psychosis (FEP), serious mental illness (SMI), substance use disorder (SUD) and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in acute inpatient and outpatient settings; and, what questions remain in relation to treating this population of women with complex presentations. There is some research literature and epidemiological data describing gender differences, however, there is almost no evidence of translation of this information into current care practices. Educational needs of the healthcare workforce will also be addressed.

NYS DOH ANNOUNCEMENTS
COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATION DIRECTORY AND ENGAGEMENT SURVEY
The NYS Department of Health (DOH) has released a new statewide Community Based Organization (CBO) directory and engagement survey. The survey has been simplified based on feedback from stakeholders and designed to capture information about CBO service provision for the purpose of making connections with Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and Value Based Payment (VBP) contractors. This survey is replacing last year's CBO survey and is open to all non-profit, community-based organizations. Information gathered through this new survey will be used to generate a new CBO directory.

GRANT OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE HEALTHY, AGE-FRIENDLY COMMUNITIES
The NYS Office for the Aging (NYSOFA), in cooperation with the NYS Departments of State and Health, released a grant program application today that will help communities to become healthier and more age-friendly. The program will fund communities that seek Age-Friendly Community certification from AARP and the World Health Organization (WHO). It will also fund county governments that commit to incorporating age-friendly and healthy community principles into all relevant policies, plans, ordinances and programs.

LONG TERM CARE PLANNING PROJECT MEETING
The NYS Department of Health and the State Office for the Aging announced the fourth meeting of the Long Term Care Planning Project (LTCPP), an initiative designed to understand the projected needs of older adults in New York by examining the State's aging and long term care system.
This meeting will be held on
Tuesday, September 17, 2019, in Room 20 on the 2nd floor of The New York Academy of Medicine at 1216 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY (entrance is on 103rd Street), from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. The topic of this meeting will be the
Long Term Care Workforce. At this meeting, there will be an interactive panel of stakeholders discussing the long term care workforce and time for participants to discuss strategies to help resolve workforce challenges.
