Minuteman Bikeway Detour, Protected Bike Lanes on Mass. Ave. in East Lexington
The Engineering Division is currently working on improvements to the Minuteman Bikeway between Seasons Four and Fottler Avenue. The work began August 13 and is anticipated to continue for approximately one month.
The detour is in effect Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM until 7:00 PM. The Bikeway is open for travel outside of these hours, including all day Saturday and Sunday.
Protected bike lanes were striped on Mass. Ave. between Pleasant Street and the Arlington town line. To provide feedback on these bike lanes, email Assistant Town Engineer Ross Morrow.
Town Receives Grant for 100 Lock Boxes for Residents Aged 60+
Through a generous grant from the Dana Home Foundation, we have received a shipment of 100 Knox Boxes for distribution to eligible residents aged 60+.
Knox Boxes are secure containers that attach to your door and contain a key to your home that only public safety personnel have access to.
Eligibility for a free Knox Box is determined by our Human Services Department and requires a home visit. To schedule an appointment, contact Human Services Nurse Alicia Grunes at 781-698-4847.
As of July 2, 2019, the Lexington Police Department is no longer a civil service department. Currently, there are 8 police officer positions the Department is looking to fill.
The new recruitment process has begun, and it requires a written entrance exam.
The next exam date is Saturday, October 19, 2019.

Lexington Police Awarded State Grant to Increase Impaired Driving Patrols
The Lexington Police Department was recently awarded a state grant to increase impaired driving patrols.
Lexington will join 140 other local police departments across the state in the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement mobilization and public information campaign.
Join us in celebrating 40 years of locally operated bus service from Lexpress. In service since 1979, Lexpress is one of the oldest local bus systems in New England.
To celebrate, we're hosting an event at Emery Park on September 21 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. More details on this event will be in the next edition of Link to Lexington.
