Welcome to
The Ursuline Experience!
Is it summer yet?!

We are pleased to announce that James Greatorex has been named Director of Auxillary Programs.  In this role he will have oversight of all summer programming, school rentals, and extended day.  We have exciting changes in the summer ahead.

To start, we have created a new partnership with Lavner Camps! With programs on the very cutting edge of science, technology, and the arts, Lavner offers a full slate of camps to enrich your child's summer at Ursuline.  From Robotics Camp with Artificial Intelligence, Next Generation Coding Camp, 3D Printing with Modeling, to Culinary Arts, Fashion Design, Video Game Design, Theater, and so much more, there's really something for everyone.

More information about Lavner Camps at Ursuline will be available in the coming weeks.  In the meantime, check out all of Lavner's amazing camps here !

Summer at Ursuline is also happy to announce our new Summer Skippers camp:  A camp experience specifically for early childhood students aged 3 - rising 1st grade. Designed to complement and extend the learning from the school year, Summer Skippers will dive into adventure  with field trips, weekly pool visits, water play, and themed weeks that include The Human Body, Pirate Explorers, Land, Sea, and Everything in Between; and Mini-Makers!

In addition to Summer Skipper and Lavner Camps, we will continue to offer our amazing sports camps and the popular STEAM camp for Middle School girls.  Whether you're a Little Skipper, Point, Cap, or Nova, things are really heating up this summer at Ursuline. Drop by the new Summer at Ursuline page at www.ursuline.org  to stay up to date!

Varsity Volleyball Wins its 12th Delaware State Title

The Ursuline Volleyball team had a tremendous regular season, finishing 13-2 with their only losses falling to the same team - Padua. They fought hard in the playoffs and found themselves back in the State Championship for the second straight season. They would be facing the same opponent who had beaten them twice already. Before a record crowd at the Bob Carpenter Center (2,836 people), the DIAA Championship game was one that will be remembered for a long time. There was outstanding play on both sides of the net, and our spirited, energetic, and sportsmanlike student cheering section made for a memorable evening. Ursuline fought hard for every point and did not stop until they sealed the victory. This is Ursuline's 12th Delaware State Title (the 11th for Coach Heiss). Congratulations to Coach Heiss, her coaching staff, and the entire team! Go Raiders!
Classroom Collaboration
The following stories come from our Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools.
Middle and Lower Schools:  My Blue Duffel Community Service Day

On Sunday, November 12th, a group of middle school students and lower school families joined KindtoKids for the My Blue Duffel Community Service Day at the Chase Center. The students and families made no-sew blankets and duffel bags filled with fun items for Delaware  children who are victims of child abuse, neglect and trauma. The duffel bags are provided to social workers, police officers, the DE child abuse hotline, FBI victim services, and emergency shelters. These duffel bags give hope and comfort to the children during this critical time of need.
Upper School:  Lauren Leonard '98 Visits Engineering Club

Our Engineering Club wishes to thank Lauren Leonard, Class of 1998, and her colleagues from Dow Chemical who visited on Thursday, November 9th for an interactive lunch and learn.

Lauren studied Mechanical Engineering at University of Delaware and upon graduation, she began her career as a Project Engineer, helping construct new dorms at UD. In 2005, she joined Dow and is now a member of their WIN (Women's Innovation Network) group. As part of their community outreach, she contacted her alma mater to offer information and advice on careers in engineering, and we are so glad she did!

The group discussed the different types of engineering roles and what characteristics engineers often share including a love of science, math, problem solving, and more. The WIN group also provided the materials and guidance needed to complete a catapult stem project in which teams studied variations of projection from operator to operator.  The visit helped guide our students through data collection in preparation of the club's future catapult contest.

Thank you to Lauren and to the WIN group for their outreach!
Lower School:  3rd Grade Play
Once Upon a Lily Pad

This past Friday, our 3rd grade class performed in their first musical production,  Once Upon a Lily Pad . This theatrical tradition is one that our students, parents, and 3rd graders look forward to every year! Directed and choreographed by our music teacher, April MacGregor, this play conveyed important life lessons such as being yourself, listening to your parents who will always believe in you, and letting your light shine from within. Although our Ursuline lower school students are no strangers to the arts, the 3rd grade play presented the tremendous opportunity for our young students to memorize lines, learn dance routines, and build their confidence.  Once Upon a Lily Pad was not only performed on the auditorium stage for the entire lower school on Friday morning, but again for family and friends on Friday evening. For those who were able to catch their theatrical debut, we hope you enjoyed every moment of it. Special thanks to Mrs. MacGregor, Mrs. Bouchard, and our 3rd grade students and parents for all your hard work and support!
Middle School:  Coat Drive with MeMe Frazier

Recently, 8th grader MeMe Frazier approached Middle School Principal, Lisa Clody, with an idea for a coat drive service project supporting the Sunday Breakfast Mission. The Sunday Breakfast Mission is a Christian organization serving homeless, addicted, and poverty-stricken people in Wilmington. Currently, they are in need of new or gently-used winter clothes.

MeMe wanted to organize a coat drive for this organization involving the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools.  She prepared flyers to hang in the buildings, brought in collection bins, and presented the project through the newsletter and the announcements. With the help of her parents, MeMe delivered 142 coats, 2 pairs of snow pants, 17 pairs of gloves, 16 hats and scarves to the Sunday Breakfast Mission on behalf of Ursuline Academy. Thank you to everyone in the community who helped make MeMe's project worthwhile.
Casino Night:  Thank You!

Ursuline Academy hosted a successful and entertaining Casino Night Fundraiser on Saturday, November 11th.  For one night, the school's gymnasium was transformed into a casino, welcoming guests to a thrilling night of gambling and entertainment.  The event brought in nearly $30,000, helping the school create a better and brighter future for our students.   Thank you to everyone who helped support Casino Night.
