Production Capabilities to PPE
A little over a month ago
, presentation packaging custom manufacturer Petra & Holum repurposed its manufacturing capabilities and converted its sewing and assembly of custom and specialized packaging to make PPEs.
Norman Hoffberg, co-President
of Petra & Holum, said: "We're proud we were able to focus the special skills our employees possess to provide the product in a short amount of time." The company designed a range of sewn face masks and assembled face shields and started production in just seven days. The PPEs are distributed to hospitals and police departments in the Midwest, including the University of Chicago Hospitals and the Chicago Police Department.
Petra, founded in 1933, is one of the oldest, most respected
designers and manufacturers of customized screen printing, presentation binders, sewn and turned edge products, promotional, and POP/POS signage. In 2018 they merged with Holum & Sons to become Petra & Holum.

Lawndale Set for Major Mixed-Use Development

, The North Lawndale neighborhood, once home to the now-demolished Ogden Courts and Lawndale public housing development, is getting a major mixed-use development - 120,000 square feet of commercial space and over 350 mixed-income housing units. The project is scheduled for completion in 2026.

SHORT CHANGED...

If Chicagoans don't start responding to the 2020 Census seriously, Chicago will be short-changed again, while struggling to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Did you know Chicagoans are only getting .66 cents back for each $1 paid
to the Federal Government since the 2010 Census? Why? Because ten years ago, only 66% of Chicagoans responded to the Federal Census.
Ten years ago, three out of every ten Chicagoans
were too scared, busy, or didn't care to respond to the Census. Statistics for the 2020 Census are more shameful. In Humboldt Park (Census tract 8023), the response rate as of May 3rd is 48%, 56% overall in Cook County, and 62% statewide.

The 2020 Census consists of 12 easy, 'Yes' or 'No' questions. It does
NOT
include a question on whether one is a citizen. We all need to take the responsibility
of responding to the Census, and encouraging
others to do so, too. Let's not short change Illinois!

The Employee Retention Credit under the CARES Act encourages businesses to keep employees on their payroll. The refundable tax credit is 50% of up to $10,000 in wages paid by an eligible employer whose business has been financially impacted by COVID-19.
