Tinker Field Research Grants Available

The Tinker Foundation has awarded a Field Research grant to  the Center for Latin American Studies, which will be used to provide graduate students with funds for travel to and within Latin America to conduct pre-dissertation research.
 
This award, combined with matching funds from the Office of International Affairs, will provide $20,000 in 2018 to graduate and professional students seeking to travel in Latin America for master's thesis and doctoral research. Grant funding is renewable for a three-year period. Up to $3,000 per student may be awarded.
   
The application will be available on the Center for Latin American Studies website on February 1st with a deadline to apply by March 15, 2018.

Call for Proposals: 2018 Symposium on Indigenous Languages and Cultures
The second Symposium on Indigenous Languages and Cultures of Latin America (ILCLA), organized in conjunction with the fourth Symposium on Teaching and Learning Indigenous Languages of Latin America (STLILLA 2018) brings together instructors, practitioners, activists, indigenous leaders, scholars and learners who study indigenous languages and cultures of Latin America and the Caribbean. 

ILCLA/STLILLA will take place October 25-28, 2018 at Ohio State. Proposals are now being accepted for individual presentations and group panels related to one of eight thematic tracks. University Engagement Recognition Awards
The Office of International Affairs is offering two awards as part of the upcoming University Engagement Recognition Awards. Ohio State faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to apply for the Distinguished International Engagement Award ($3,000) and the Emerging International Engagement Award ($1,000). Applications are due February 28th and more information about the application process can be found here.
Love for Puerto Rico Fundraiser
On September 20th, 2017, Hurricane María completely devastated Puerto Rico, leaving 3.4 million people without power, without clean water, and many without their homes. Even after nearly 5 months, Puerto Rico is still a long way from recovery.  O n Wednesday, February 21st, the   "Love for Puerto Rico" Fundraiser  will take place in the Multicultural Center at the Ohio Union from 9 am to 6 pm. All proceeds will go to  Hispanic Federation UNIDOS  to  meet hurricane-related needs and recovery in Puerto Rico. Anyone can contribute by donating cash at the event, or directly at go.osu.edu/HFLove4PR, Venmo (@PRSAOSU) or PayPal (prsa.osu@gmail.com).

The Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs (CLASP) has released the list of Summer 2018 offerings for the intensive study of Portuguese, Haitian Creole, and indigenous Latin American languages. Please visit the CLASP website for more information about courses available this summer! 
Global Gateway Graduate Student Research Abroad Grant
All graduate students conducting research abroad this summer are encouraged to apply for the Global Gateway Graduate Student Research Abroad Grant.

The grant will fund applicants from a variety of disciplines who plan to conduct research abroad this summer, especially in locations where Ohio State has a Global Gateway office - China, India and Brazil - and where Ohio State hopes to have a more significant presence in the future - Ethiopia and Turkey. Successful applicants will be awarded a grant of up to $1,000 to assist with travel related expenses for research abroad. The application deadline is
March 1, 2018.

Funded by the Office of International Affairs, the Graduate School and the Council of Graduate Students, the grant encourages and promotes the professional and academic development of graduate student researchers at Ohio State by providing financial support allowing students to undertake thesis or dissertation research abroad.

University of New Mexico Latin American and Iberian Instiutte: Richard E. Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar travel award
The University of New Mexico Latin American and Iberian Institute (LAII) and the University Libraries are pleased to invite applications for the Richard E. Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar travel award. The deadline for applications is Friday, March 31, 2017 at 5:00 pm (MT).

Call for Papers: Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Social Sciences
The 8th Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Social Sciences ( CLACSO) will take place in Buenos Aires, November 19-23, 2018. CLACSO is the first international forum on critical thinking and will offer over 500 accommodation and travel grants for participants. Abstracts may be submitted in any of 36 thematic areas in Spanish, English, or Portuguese. 

General registration closes April 12th, 2018 and selections for individual, group, or institutional lectures at the open panel discussion will be released beginning June 12, 2018.
Graduate Student International Research Scholarships Available
The Office of International Affairs is seeking applications for a scholarship that supports graduate and professional students in international research or travel. The deadline to apply for the Sonkin-Bergman-Wasserman Families' Scholarship is Friday, February 23.
The Sonkin-Bergman-Wasserman Families' Scholarship for International Understanding and Peace provides one or more awards for deserving graduate and professional students active in research or study that contributes to the pursuit of international understanding and peace. Students focused on international problems from any department or field are encouraged to apply.
Mershon Center Scholarships and Research Grants
Each year, the Mershon Center for International Security Studies holds a competition for Ohio State faculty and students to apply for research grants and scholarship funds. The deadline for all applications is 5 p.m. on  Wednesday, February 28, 2018 .

Applications for Faculty Research and Seed Grants and Graduate Student Research Grants must be for projects related to the study of national security in a global context.  In recent years the center has funded several dozen faculty and graduate student research projects with grants for travel, seminars, conferences, interviews, experiments, surveys, library costs, and more.

The Mershon Center has also established International Security Scholarships for Undergraduate Theses and Study Abroad to support undergraduates whose professional career plans lie in the field of international security and who would benefit doing research for an undergraduate thesis or studying in a foreign country.
