District 6 Spotlight

Trash Talk

Let's pick up trash while we talk about community issues. Our next session of "Trash Talk" will take place on Friday, September 27th at 9:00 a.m. We will meet at 1432 W. San Carlos Street #70 in front of Starbucks in Midtown.

Residents of District 6 are invited to join me and my District 6 Office team to pick up trash in District 6. This will be a great opportunity for District 6 residents to talk to me and my staff about issues you are concerned with in our district and clean up our neighborhoods all at the same time. All trash-collecting equipment will be provided. Kids are welcome. Bring friends!

The monthly Santana Row Makers Market in the Park hosted by Makers Market is back! Bring your friends & family to this curated marketplace in Santana Row Park (across from Left Bank Brasserie) and shop local artists selling US Handcrafted goods such as jewelry, handbags, ceramics, soaps, succulents, candles and more! Enjoy the beautiful outdoor park, listen to live music, and support local small businesses.

Viva Calle San Jose

Viva CalleSJ is a free recreation program that temporarily closes miles of San Jose streets to bring communities together to walk, bike, skate, play  and explore the city. Register here. The 5K Run starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 10:00 a.m.




BBQ In the Glen

The 4th Annual Willow Glen BBQ in the Glen is a community event featuring amateur and professional BBQ teams competing for pride and prizes. The community gets the opportunity to sample the finished product, while enjoying an afternoon of music, kids' court, beer and wine.

Taking place during the hours of 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., the festival is located in the same location as last year, the Bank of America parking lot, at 1245 Lincoln Ave, San Jose, CA 95125. Within the festival area is: a main stage for announcing the competition winners, approximately 20-30 enclosed food booths and cooking areas for the contestants, 2-3 drink booths serving beer, local wine, and soda/water, up to six sponsor booths, and two information/ticket sales booths.

 Environmental Services Department Makes Recycling Easier

Ever find yourself wondering how to recycle a particular item? ESD's new recycling website:  www.SanJoseRecycles.org

Now website users can search for local recycling and disposal options for over 250 items using desktop or mobile devices. The website helps residents learn how to Recycle Right and provides the latest waste reduction news and tips.

Retirement Boards for the City of San Jose

The Office of Retirement Services is actively recruiting applicants to join the Board of Administration for the Federated City Employees' Retirement System, where we currently have two vacant Public Member Board Member positions available to fill.

Volunteer at the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden

The roses continue to bloom, even in the Fall! Thanks to our wonderful weather, new roses will adorn our iconic rose garden if we continue to deadhead! Please join us to ensure the cycle of beautiful buds continues. All tools and training provided. 

Please wear closed-toe shoes and long sleeves. Bring a filled water bottle, a hat and sunscreen. *Teens: earn school community service hours. No pre-registration, simply come out and garden with us!



California Coastal Cleanup

Saturday September 21st at 9:00 a.m.


Valley Water invites you to join us for a local creek cleanup in your neighborhood.  There are currently 45 cleanup sites to pick from  throughout Santa Clara County.  A certificate for community service hours will be provided  to students who require volunteer hours for school.

Sharks Fan Fest 2019 presented by Bay Area BMW Centers is back and is your chance to meet the players, get photos on the ice or with the Shark Head, enjoy programming on the main stage and much more. Plus, join us for the Sharks Legends Game immediately following Fan Fest. Walk, bike, or scoot to Fan Fest!

ARES/RACES Countywide Communications Exercise

Urban Confluence Silicon Valley

Urban Confluence Silicon Valley is a project of the San Jose Light Tower Corporation (SJLTC), a nonprofit organization. The primary goal of the project is to create a new, distinctive, world-class public landmark in downtown San Jose, Silicon Valley's largest urban center.

The project will be placed at the Confluence of the Guadalupe River and Los Gatos Creek in the most important Urban park in Silicon Valley, located in downtown San Jose.

The Open International Design Competition is now accepting submissions. This competition is open to students, artists, architects, landscape architects, urban planners, engineers, designers, place-makers, and creative individuals or teams everywhere.
