Erika Becker, Staff Attorney, works with NOVA in Bucks County
|
|
DOYLESTOWN -
Erika Becker joined LASP in September 2018 as Staff Attorney. Based in the Doylestown office, she works part-time with Network of Victim Assistance (NOVA) to provide civil legal services to crime victims. Erika holds a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and a B.A. from Tufts University. Prior to LASP she worked as an Associate at Dechert LLP and in corporate communications for Houghton Mifflin.
"It has been gratifying to help NOVA clients understand the legal system and give them the tools they need to protect their own rights in civil court," Erika said. "Coming from a corporate background, this is fairly new to me, and I've been lucky to have great resources in the Doylestown office to learn from."
On a personal note, she said, "I'm a mother of three who is quite happy that the school year is starting!"

Michelle Dempsky, Staff Attorney, addresses landlord-tenant issues in Montgomery County
|
|
NORRISTOWN - A New Jersey native,
Michelle Dempsky
joined LASP's team in May as Staff Attorney in landlord-tenant law. "I’ve always believed that access to justice shouldn’t be dependent on a person’s income," Michelle said. "Every win and benefit I can achieve for a client with Legal Aid promotes this ideal."
Part of LASP's Regional Housing Unit, Michelle noted that "most clients understand very little about landlord-tenant law in this state. They don’t know their rights, or what obligations the landlord must adhere to in maintaining the property. Being able to secure serious repairs, preventing illegal lockouts, and interpreting notice requirements for eviction are of crucial importance, and something I strive to educate clients on. Furthermore, many do not fully understand the landlord’s obligation when it comes to subsidized housing, and how to obtain relief or transfer vouchers, and navigating this process is important for finding livable housing.”
Prior to joining LASP, she worked as an attorney at Kraemer, Manes & Associates in civil litigation and at Alterman & Associates LLC. An alumna of Temple Law School, she is licensed to practice law in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. At Lafayette College, Michelle earned a B.S. in geological and earth sciences. As an environmental engineering intern, she monitored for floating debris - by helicopter - in New York Harbor and along the coast for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Michelle and her wife care for two horses and many chickens on their Pennsylvania farm.
