Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
If these walls could talk, what stories they could tell! The 2
nd
annual Biography Day was a huge success. Presidents and First Ladies, inventors, scientists, Texas heroes, heroes of the American Revolution, Founding Fathers, and other noteworthy persons descended upon the school this week. This project covered curriculum standards for research, writing, history, geography, public speaking, problem solving, and more. Middle school students became a "living history museum." Guests were able to hear about the lives of historic figures from the student who was in character. In lower elementary, students could visit a "wax museum," hear about inventors and elected officials, community helpers, and more. The level of sophistication was commensurate with the student's age level. What was clear at all grade levels is that the learning was robust, and the students were engaged. Biography Day was a successful culmination to another vertically-aligned, school-wide project at OLQP!
One of the most beautiful things about working in Catholic schools is that we are truly able to celebrate the liturgical seasons of the year. Advent begins this Sunday. We fully embrace the season through prayer, acts of mercy, and song. Walking by the chapel today, one could hear the lyrics to Silent Night as students practiced their music for the Christmas Concert. It only takes a moment or two on this campus to be reminded that:
"Jesus Christ is the reason for this school, the unseen but ever-present Teacher in all its classes,
the model of its faculty, and the inspiration for its students."
Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
