SUPERINTENDENT UPDATE REGARDING 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR

SAUSD SUMMER MEAL SERVICE LAUNCHES MAY 29
SAUSD has served more than 1 million free meals to children since temporarily closing campuses to help curb the spread of COVID-19. The District is continuing to provide for the nutritional needs of children by hosting a free summer meal program from May 29 to July 31, 2020. Food will be distributed three days a week at eight locations. Click here for a schedule.
VIRTUAL HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATIONS CONTINUE THROUGH JUNE 3
Virtual graduation videos for SAUSD high schools are being live streamed by the District through June 3, 2020. Join in the celebration by tuning into the District’s website, YouTube channel and Facebook page, along with SAUSD.tv, Spectrum Channel 31 and AT&T Channel 99. LAURA GÓMEZ NAMED A 2021 ORANGE COUNTY TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Congratulations to Laura Gómez, of SAUSD's Martin Elementary School, who has been named a 2021 Orange County Teacher of the Year! Gómez has worked at Martin since 2006 and has taught a full-inclusion third-grade class for the last five years. She will go on to represent Orange County at the state level. Click here to read more.

ADRIANA HUEZO: NATIONAL LIFE CHANGER OF THE YEAR
Congratulations to Adriana Huezo, a higher education coordinator at Segerstrom High School, who has been named a National Life Changer of the Year for her work to help close the achievement gap for underrepresented students. Life Changer of the Year is an annual program recognizing school employees across the country who are making a significant difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership. PARENT SURVEY REGARDING REOPENING OF SCHOOL IN FALL 2020 
SAUSD is seeking feedback from parents regarding the reopening of school in Fall 2020. Click here to provide input on a range of topics, including class sizes, staggered schedules, full-time virtual learning and more.
BOARD APPROVES GRADING POLICY FOR SPRING 2020
The Board of Education has approved a policy for grading during the Spring 2020 semester. The policy was created to reflect changes in instruction caused by the temporary closure of school campuses, and the implementation of distance learning, in reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic. SAUSD COMMEMORATES MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH 
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the SAUSD We Care Task Force is ensuring that the community remembers that “We Care” all month long. Members from various departments have been spreading the message with self care reminders, social media challenges, and more. HISTORY-SOCIAL SCIENCE SECONDARY TEXTBOOK REVIEW
The SAUSD community is being given the opportunity to review History-Social Science textbooks for secondary grades that are being recommended for adoption to the Board of Education. Parents and community members are encouraged to review the textbooks, and make comments and recommendations, through June 10, 2020. Click here to participate.
