An Important Message from
Mrs. Laidlaw Otto
Dear SJE Families,
The end of the year is coming at us full speed! Our teachers are preparing to complete assessments of learning on students, collect the materials that you have at home, and close up their classrooms. Today’s newsletter includes a link to a sign-up genius document (see below) for our material drop off/pickup day to be held on June 5th. You will also receive a separate email directly from sign up genius asking that you chose a time to visit school. In preparation for June 5th, we are asking that families do the following:
- Gather all learning materials which need to be returned. This list includes textbooks, Chromebooks, leveled readers, library books, and anything manipulatives that were issued by a classroom teacher. Homeroom teachers will email out a list of textbooks and materials unique to their grade level to assist you in gathering materials.
- Talk with your child about any belongings that they might have left behind in their classrooms or lockers when school closed. Our teachers have done their best to gather any personal belongings that were left behind and return them to families, but we know that there still may be forgotten items. Please email your child’s homeroom teacher directly regarding any personal belongings.
At that pickup, families will receive a packet including final teacher communication, any recognitions earned by your child, and information to keep learning going throughout the summer months. This includes our annual summer reading challenge, as well as some grade specific activities designed to help our students to return to school in fall ready to tackle school.
The greatest challenge for me throughout our quarantine experience has been communicating timely information to you, while the information I receive changes so rapidly. To keep the lines of communication open throughout the summer, I will be sending periodic emails to families. These emails will include updates to families with information regarding our return to school in August. Please watch your email for updates, and feel free to contact me with questions along the way.
I am so thankful to all of you for your patience. Our families are the foundation of our community. We are blessed to support you, and to have you support us, throughout this challenging time.
Warm Regards,
Mary Laidlaw Otto
