Presbytery of the James Joins in Support of Restorative Justice Forum

Presbytery of the James and its Dismantling Racism and Public Policy Witness Ministries invite you to learn about restorative justice at a forum on September 27. Experts from around Virginia will discuss the many formats of restorative justice and address its benefits, obstacles, and accomplishments. The event is free, but registration is required.

Find Community at the Manover at Hanover

Men, mark your calendars for a great time of fellowship, food, and reflection at the annual Manover at Hanover. This year's theme is Finding Community in a Networked World. The event begins Friday, October 4, at 6 p.m. and ends Saturday at 5 p.m. The event cost of $60 per person includes lodging, three meals, and the program.

Registration is open for Fall 2019 online courses in UPSem’s Pathways to Learning and Leadership program. The courses are open to all, including those desiring to become Commissioned Ruling Elders as well as church and community members who want to further their education and discipleship. Each course meets online weekly for five weeks, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Church leaders and congregation members are invited to attend Seminary for a Day on September 28. This annual event offers an excellent opportunity to engage in important theological topics with seminary faculty. Registration is $25 per person and includes lunch, along with two workshop choices.

Apply Now for Randolph Macon Youth Program

Randolph Macon College is seeking applicants for its Valuing the Voices in Our Church program for high school students. Through the year-long program, youth explore their gifts for leadership and vocations called by God. Applications are due by October 4. The program's kick-off event on October 26 includes activities for students and parents.

In the second of its Music in the Countryside recital series,
Hebron Presbyterian Church
in Manakin-Sabot hosts the LYRA
a capella
vocal group from St. Petersburg, Russia. LYRA performs Russian folk songs and Orthodox church music. The concert is Friday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m. A light reception will follow.

Program Seeks Applicants for Women in Ministry
Twenty women will be accepted into a program to explore ways in which contemplative monastic tradition can be of value for women in ministry today. Women at the Wellsprings draws from the rich tradition to help participants discover a rhythm of prayer and develop spiritual practices for sustaining and thriving in ministry.

Unique Worship Services at the Gayton Kirk
The Gayton Kirk
in Henrico invites you to unique worship services offered weekly. Jazz Vespers at 5 p.m. on Sundays includes music, conversation, and Holy Communion. Explore your questions about God while sitting in small groups with fellow worshipers. A soup dinner follows.
On Wednesdays, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., enjoy prayer in the style of Taizé. Simple songs sung in a repetitive manner aid worshipers in obtaining a meditative mood. While Taizé worship does not incorporate a sermon or Holy Communion, its candle lighting and periods of silence create space for reflection and communion with God and one another.

Conference Focuses on Multigenerational Communities
Presbyterian Older Adult Ministries Network
will focus on intergenerational engagement at its 2019 national conference October 15-18 at Louisville Seminary. Speakers include Rev. Diane Moffett, president and executive director of Presbyterian Mission Agency, and Rev. Jason Santos, Presbyterian Mission Agency coordinator for Christian Formation.
