Family Expo Moves Forward After Hurricane Dorian *
The Children's Trust 2019 Family Expo is on for Saturday, September 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Miami-Dade Fair & Expo Center, despite a close call from Hurricane Dorian this past week. The
FREE event attracts hundreds of child and family services exhibitors sharing vital information with approximately 15,000 visitors. The day is also marked by a slew of fun activities for kids, including interactive games, a robotics room, live musical performances, face painters, and arts and crafts, to name just a few.
There will also be a chance to
bring donations of emergency supplies, including water, food, and other items to victims of the hurricane in the Bahamas. Look for the Hurricane Relief Booth.

First TRIM Hearing Coming Sept. 9
The Children’s Trust will be holding its first TRIM hearing to tentatively adopt its millage rate and budget for 2019-2020; a public hearing to tentatively adopt the taxes and budget will be held on Monday, September 9, 5:01 p.m., at the United Way Ansin Building, Ryder Room, 3250 SW 3rd Avenue, Miami, FL 33129.

Provider Power! Quarterly Meeting on Sept. 19
Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 19, as The Children's Trust will host its quarterly Provider Meeting with a general session for all Trust-funded providers from 10 a.m. to noon. After lunch, breakout sessions for providers in the areas of Youth Development K-12, Parenting/Family Strengthening and Partnerships will take place from 1-3 p.m.
The Provider Meeting will take place at the University of Miami's Donna E. Shalala Student Center - Grand Ballroom, where the theme of meeting will be "A Culture of Learning and Racial Equity." Please ensure that all staff members who are essential to our partnership attend; this includes executive directors/CEOs for the morning session, along with the individuals who manage your programs.

Trust-Funded Providers MUST UPDATE Staff Positions on Trust Central
In August, the website used to register for all training events and to take online courses changed. This change affects ALL Trust-funded providers.
You must take action to have your past and future training count toward metrics requirements.
With this change, in addition to the great training classes and online courses currently offered by The Children’s Trust and our partners, staff of Trust-funded programs will have access to a
FREE catalog of hundreds of online courses in the areas of child/youth care, professional development, and safety practices. The first step is for your Trust Central Agency Admin to include staff information in
Trust Central. All staff whose position is partially or fully funded through a Trust contract and required to take training must be included in Trust Central.

Advocacy Network on Disabilities
All Children Together Inclusion Kick-Off
Jump start the new contract year acquiring the skills you need to offer quality programming to ALL children. Complete a training, meet and greet your Inclusion Specialist, and learn how to assess and increase your program’s inclusion-readiness. The Kick-Off is for all Youth Development staff, and An Administrator’s Guide to the Americans with Disabilities Act will also be offered for agency and program executives, directors, and administrators. The kick-off takes place Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind, 601 SW 8th Ave., Miami. Navigating Community Resources Training
Want to learn about the tools necessary for directing families to helpful resources and help them navigate systems of care? This training will introduce you to commonly needed resources for children and youth with disabilities. The target audience includes Service Partnership Care Coordinators, Parent Educators, and Youth Development program staff. The training will be held Friday, September 20, from 1-3 p.m. at West Kendall Regional Library, 10201 Hammocks Boulevard, Miami.
Successful Inclusion of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)-Part 2
An interactive, experiential opportunity to develop visual schedules, practice American Sign Language and create and tell Social Stories. Learn how to create a sensory friendly environment, keep children safe and use literature to foster acceptance and understanding. The event takes place Monday, September 9, from 9:30 a.o 12:30 p.m., at Arcola Lakes Branch Library, 8240 NW 7 Avenue.

DISCOVERING INCLUSION: Particularly appropriate for staff with little or no previous knowledge about youth with disabilities and their inclusion into programs with typically developing peers, this course introduces various types of disabilities, identifies the benefits of inclusion for all, provides information on using People First Language and respectful etiquette, and explores the characteristics of an inclusive program.
Introduction to Successful Inclusion of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Part 1: Learn what Autism Spectrum Disorder is and the various ways in which the condition manifests. Participants gain knowledge about helping youth meet behavioral expectations, recognizing and accommodating those with sensory sensitivities, fostering social competence, addressing bullying, and ensuring a safe environment. This course is a pre-requisite for Successful Inclusion of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders Part 2.

Assistant Manager for Vision Solution
