The Internet and the pages of magazines are overflowing with images of perfectly organized closets. Each piece of clothing is artfully arranged, and just the right number of each fills its designated area, sorted by color, style and season. These rooms within rooms act as mini retreats and exude glamour. How does your closet measure up?

   Reaching In

Most real-life closets don't come anywhere near what we ooh and ahh over on sites like  Pinterest. True, there's lots to admire and they give us plenty to aspire to when thinking about how we'd like our own closets to look. Pull-out shelving, museum-worthy shoe displays and even a chandelier give an ordinary closet space its sparkle and shine.

But what, perhaps, of the more popular reach-in closet, a basic alcove that may include space for short and long-hanging items and a couple of shelves? How about a closet that has but one rod or shelving that's  unreachable, and therefore unusable? With so many closet design options, it's quite doable to create your own boutique-like closet.
The Outfitters

Having a photo-worthy closet may be lovely, and it's possible when you add your own personal      touches. What you really want, however, is a functional closet. After all, what's the use in having    all the bells and whistles a closet can offer if you can't find a thing to wear? Luckily, there are a      few things you can do to be sure that your closet works for you and looks good, too.

  1. Clear everything out of the closet and make the necessary decisions about what to keep and what to dispose. There are lots of worthy causes that would love to receive your clothing donations to help others in need, and your closet will be filled with only the things you'd love to wear.
  2. Use the slim, velvet-coated hangers consistently for all hanging items. They look good, keep clothing from slipping, and because they are space-saving, you'll get to sneak in a few more pieces.
  3. Extender rods and expandable shelf organizers essentially create twice as much space. Take advantage of using over-the door organizers for shoes and accessories also.
  4. Keep purses and stacks of jeans or sweaters from toppling over with shelf dividers.
  5. A wall sconce, a mirror, baskets to corral smaller items, and a valet bar are special touches that will give your closet personality.
Imagine a closet where it's like shopping in your own personal boutique. Every wardrobe item is perfectly hung and folded, and it's all at your fingertips. It's possible, and it's yours. You may even want to snap a picture of it.
