The Pegasus Project is changing lives every day for horses and humans by fulfilling our mission to rescue and rehome neglected animals. We completely depend upon your continued generosity to keep the operation going. To assist in our fundraising goals, Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) is sponsoring North Texas Giving Day on Thursday, September 19th.
Members of the Pegasus board of directors and other generous donors are providing matching funds for gifts made in connection with North Texas Giving Day. Our Matching Donors will match EVERY gift made on September 19th dollar-for-dollar up to
$44,000!
In addition, The Pegasus Project will receive extra bonus funds from CFT for each donation of $25 or more made on Thursday, September 19th. More than $2 million in bonus funds are available for qualifying nonprofits! (Gifts of less than $25 are welcome and appreciated but not eligible for CFT bonus funds.)
With the bonus funds from CFT and our core supporters' 1:1 matching funds, donations totaling $44,000 will turn into more then $88,000! So, please mark your calendar for September 19th, save your pennies, and plan to donate generously!
Also, every donation made to Pegasus through the North Texas Giving Day website on September 19th helps our chances of winning additional money. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day ranging from $500 - $10,000! With more than 100 total prizes being awarded, our chances to maximize your gift are great.
By visiting the North Texas Giving Day Pegasus link between 6am and midnight (Central Time) on September 19th and donating $25 or more, you will make a tremendous impact on the work Pegasus can do. You can give securely from your computer, smart phone or mobile device. With your help, we WILL reach our
$88,000 fundraising goal
on North Texas Giving Day! These funds will go directly to the care, support and training of the forty-three rescued equine currently residing at the Pegasus ranch.

Beginning at 8am on September 9th and continuing through midnight on September 18th, donors can log on to the Pegasus link on the North Texas Giving Day website and schedule their gifts to The Pegasus Project, which will then be processed on September 19th.
Please join us at The Forge in Ben Wheeler, starting at 5:30pm on September 19th. We will host a Pegasus Partner Happy Hour with drink specials and a donation station available to help you make your gift to the horses. When you leave, give us a copy of your receipt, and The Forge will donate your entire purchase back to The Pegasus Project!

The Pegasus Project is fortunate to be affiliated with some very fine horsemen. We are particularly fortunate that these horsemen are willing to come share their knowledge with the people of East Texas. Bruce Logan, 2016 AQHA VRH Open Ranch Cutting World Champion, will be teaching a horsemanship clinic at the Pegasus Ranch on September 11, 12 and 13. We currently have rider positions available, and auditors are welcome. Details regarding costs and how to book can be found here:
BRUCE LOGAN
Bruce, who operates a seven thousand acre working cattle ranch in Loving, Texas, is a gifted colt starter and all around horseman. He is known throughout the U.S. and abroad for his ability to help challenging horses trained in all disciplines. His horsemanship philosophy is based on a foundation that helps the horse stay confident and supple. Bruce believes in putting the horse's mind, body and spirit first to accomplish the goals set for the horse and rider. Because of our longtime relationship with Bruce and because our horsemanship philosophies align, Bruce serves as an advisor to The Pegasus Project board of directors. From September 11 through September 13, Bruce will be at the Pegasus Ranch working with a variety of horses and students including Pegasus trainer, Anthony LaSpina. Bruce and Anthony will work with a large number of Pegasus horses to advance each to the next level of training. We look forward to seeing many of you at this clinic. Beautiful boy gets another chance

Taj is a 13 year old registered Quarter Horse gelding (registered name is "I Said Posse") who stands about 15 hands tall. He was born May 1, 2006 and is the grandson of Shining Spark. Taj's current owner, Susie, asked The Pegasus Project to take him on, help him with some issues, and find him a forever home. She is moving out of the country and can no longer keep him. Susie is paying for Taj's training with Bruce Logan and is committed to Taj for as long as it takes to find him a safe, caring home with an adopter who will love him as much as she does.
Susie acquired Taj when he was 6 years old and has worked with him consistently over the past 7 years. Prior to coming to Susie, he had been through multiple owners and had been trained with a heavy hand. Rough treatment caused Taj some emotional issues that Susie worked to overcome. Bruce Logan took him on several months ago and has helped him feel better. This is a horse who was forced in his training, and he does not do well with being yanked and pulled on. Harsh treatment brings back bad memories for him. Susie describes Taj as a resilient, sensitive, smart horse with a great sense of play and humor. He's a real character with other horses and with people. He is curious and loves to be ridden in open fields. Taj is very grounded and not spooky. Despite his history, his spirit is fully intact.
Taj enjoys ground work with a person with a gentle hand, and he thrives with lots of praise. He has a strong food drive and enjoys a treat at the end of a working period. Taj is great with other horses, but he is passive and does not do well with bullies. He loves being part of a herd and needs a buddy. He bonds to people quickly and loves attention and being doted upon. He's a good boy who loves fresh green grass and a nice bath.
Taj can be ridden with a gentle snaffle bit, but he does best in a hackamore (we recommend Dennis Moreland tack). When Taj arrived at Bruce's ranch, he was experiencing some issues with his hind end and some front end soreness due to improper shoeing. Bruce pulled his shoes, and Taj has done well barefoot ever since. Multiple sessions of magna wave therapy have helped him tremendously in his hips. Taj can be ridden up to 2-3 times per week and stay sound. He's the kind of horse you can ride infrequently and get on him and go. He is kind, confident and a joy to be around. Taj will make the recreational rider the perfect companion. He needs an intermediate rider who wants to trail ride and have fun with a horse. Taj will not take well to being "trained on." He's had enough of that in the past.
Taj is with Bruce at his ranch in Loving, Texas. Anyone interested in applying to adopt him will need to contact Allyson at Pegasus to make arrangements to go meet Taj at Bruce's place. The same adoption procedures apply to Taj as to all Pegasus horses.

Side note: The Pegasus Project commits to every horse for life. Our adoption contract provides that when you adopt a horse from Pegasus, you may never sell, trade or give the horse away. If you cannot keep the horse for the remainder of its life, you must return the horse to us or we must approve the next adopter and that adopter must enter into our adoption contract. We firmly believe that every horse is just one owner away from being put at risk. We are proud of our safety-for-life guarantee and never want a Pegasus horse to end up back in the system. We screen our adopters carefully, and they are grateful for this safety net for their beloved animals. This is one of the many reasons Susie chose to entrust Taj to Pegasus. It's a great comfort for her to know we will ensure Taj's safety forever.

A Note from Allyson
I met Bruce Logan in person for the first time in 2005 when I took my horse, Gaits, to him for training. Long before that day, I had admired Bruce from afar as a young superstar with the Parelli program. When Gaits turned 5 years old, he began to give me a bit of trouble, and Christi Rains, a talented Parelli professional with whom I studied, told me that Bruce was the guy to help Gaits and me. Boy, was she right! Bruce's work with Gaits was the beginning of a long and very special relationship between Bruce and me and my horses.
Over the years, Bruce helped Mike and me with a number of our horses, and as an attorney, I helped him with a number of legal issues and contracts
. Our trust, friendship and admiration for each other grew, and by the time The Pegasus Project was born, it was inevitable that Bruce would play a major role in its development. He has served as a guiding light for our training program and a wise mentor to help us navigate through challenging times.
Bruce's talent with horses is undeniable. He's the best colt starter I've ever seen. But most importantly, he understands horses better than anyone around. He strives to see things from the horse's perspective and to build the horse's confidence through communication the horse can understand. Bruce is NEVER impatient with a horse. By providing consistency and fairness, he builds trust and develops the horse's talents without force, fear or intimidation.
Bruce has helped us with many Pegasus horses over the years. We have taken in horses that other trainers write off as "untrainable" to have Bruce develop them into safe partners for average riders. He looks at a horse and sees its potential and give the horse the time necessary to develop trust and begin learning. In 2016 when Bruce heard about Pegasus taking in the ultra-challenging Phoenix Herd, he stepped up and offered to take the entire group of feral horses to his ranch to get them manageable before bringing them to the Pegasus ranch. We would have been overwhelmed and outmatched without his talents and assistance.
Currently, Bruce serves as an advisor to the Pegasus board of directors. He fills the important role of not only developing many of our horses but of training our trainers. Bruce is a mentor to our entire staff and shares his extensive knowledge of horsemanship with our young, talented trainers.
We are fortunate that Bruce continues sharing his vast knowledge with the Pegasus staff, as well as all interested horse enthusiasts. He conducts horsemanship clinics at the Pegasus ranch four times per year. He also welcomes riders to his cattle ranch in Loving, Texas twice per year for instruction and experience in general cow/ranch/cutting work. If you are interested in learning from one of the great masters, don't miss your chance to ride with Bruce. His remaining 2019 clinics at the Pegasus ranch are in September and November, and his cow working clinic in Loving is in October. In addition to helping all of us at Pegasus, Bruce has been a mentor to many aspiring horsemen in the course of his career. Pick up Tik Maynard's book, "In The Middle Are The Horsemen," for Tik's accounting of his inspirational journey to truly understand horses. Tik credits Bruce with teaching him more about horses in a few short months than he had learned about horses in the course of his lifetime. It's a great read!
