Make new friends and enrich your faith with the Friends in Faith discussion group on Mondays from 10:30-11:30AM in the Lea Room at the Church House. We begin our time together by praying for the people on the church prayer list, then we share in ten minutes of silent meditation followed by lively conversation of a spiritual nature based on a different topic each week. Feel free to join us every week or just once in a while when your schedule allows.  Contact Elizabeth Clemmitt with any questions at
[email protected]  or (312) 618-1238.
Tuesday Book Group  - Tuesdays - 1:00-2:00PM - Starting Sept. 10

For the fall we are re-reading The Time is Now: A Call to Uncommon Courage by Joan Chittister, nun, theologian, and cultural commentator. We meet Tuesdays at 1:00 in the McClain Room. Please contact Susie Sprowl with any questions, [email protected].
Centering Prayer -  Starting Tuesday, September 3 - 2:00-3:00PM

The Centering Prayer group will resume our weekly meetings this coming Tuesday, September 3. The group meets  from 2:00-3:00PM in the Lea Room of the Church House every Tuesday.

Centering Prayer is a simple method of silent meditation which cultivates inner peace and helps us be more aware of the presence and activity of God in our lives.
We begin with twenty minutes of meditation (or "resting in God") followed by a short time of sharing about our practice, and then we finish by reading from a book about Centering Prayer.

Feel free to come occasionally or come every week. Please contact Elizabeth Clemmitt with any questions at  [email protected]  or  (312) 618-1238 .

Holy Caffeine to Read The Screwtape Letters
Beginning on Friday, September 13

Holy Caffeine, a study of the Bible for all ages, meets on Fridays from 8:30-9:30AM in the Lea Room at Church on the Hill. After seven years of reading various books from Scripture, we are beginning this year by reading The Screwtape Letters, the book that introduced the world to the Christian writing of C.S. Lewis. Published in 1941, the book is still in print due to its masterful understanding of how our spiritual lives both work and don't work.

The premise of the book is that Screwtape, a senior tempter from Hell, writes letters to his underling Wormwood, a junior tempter recently assigned his first 'patient'. Wormwood schools him along the way as to how he can best win souls away from God, revealing clearly along the way how God works in our lives. Reading this material from the enemy's point of view provides a colorful and creative way to introduce the reader to various aspects of living a life in communion with the Divine.

In addition to the book, readily available in paperback, we will be using a remarkable study guide written by a Lewis devotee which will be available to the class on the first day, Friday, September 13th.

This discussion group meets Friday mornings from 8:30-9:30AM in the Lea Room. Christopher Powell leads the group in the study and discussion of scripture.  All are welcome! For more information, contact Christopher at 847-868-5611.
