Message from the Executive Director
This is my first newsletter as AWA's Executive Director.
I hope you find the announcements
and information useful and engaging. I want to remind you that the Steamboat Art Museum show
Looking West closes on September 2. If you
find yourself in Colorado this weekend, it's
your last chance to see the exhibition!
I would like to acknowledge Robin Knowlton,
who has been so helpful teaching me the ropes, generously handing over the reins. I also want to thank the AWA Board for their selection of me as her replacement. I'm very honored to represent such a large group of talented women and look forward to meeting you all in person soon.
Our membership drive will begin November 1
and we're looking forward to receiving your renewals, as well as bringing new members on board. It's an exciting year ahead in 2020, with
the Spring Online Juried Show and the juried museum exhibition at the Booth Western Art Museum in Georgia.

We are thrilled to announce that AWA will offer a
$10,000 Grand Prize cash award for our juried museum shows, starting with the
Booth Western Art Museum in 2020. This significant award reflects the level of acknowledgement and support AWA brings
to its members and the level of excellence of the art that is selected
for our museum shows.

Congratulations!
2020 Master Signature Members
After a vote by AWA's Master-Signature Members, we'd like to extend our congratulations to
Sally Maxwell and Carol Carter, elected as the newest Master-Signature Members; AWA's highest level of achievement.
Sally Maxwell is a pioneer in scratchboard and was one of the first designated as a Master Scratchboard Artist by the International Society of Scratchboard Artists. She was also one of the first to introduce color to the medium and has been perfecting her craft since 1967. Sally lives in La Grange, TX. Visit her website

Carol Carter received her MFA at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Having spent several years of her childhood in Florida, Carter's work often includes images of water and tropical themes. She works in watercolor and acrylic media and is recognized internationally in both. Carol lives in St. Louis, and splits her time between painting in her studio, teaching, and traveling. Carol is an internationally renowned American artist whose work has been exhibited in six countries and published worldwide. In this video she shares her insights in building an art career while balancing creativity with business and marketing.

AWA Signature Member Kim Minichiello is one of several members whose creative past includes stints with Disney (as well as members Laurie Stevens, Ellen Woodbury, Heather Lynn Gibson). Kim studied Environmental Design at Purdue - which she describes as a degree in interior design with an emphasis on architecture - leading her to work in Indiana.

In the Audubon Tradition
The exhibition In the Audubon Tradition opens September 13 at the newly-renovated Cincinnati Museum Center in Ohio, which includes the Museum of Natural History & Science. The Museum was founded in 1818 as the Western History Society, and opened its doors in 1820. Its first employee was famed naturalist and artist John James Audubon. In the Audubon Tradition includes over 80 wildlife artists (40% are women) from across North America who have produced 250 original pieces of art inspired by the work of Audubon and the natural world. Other AWA members include: Renee Bemis, Crystal Beshara, Kim Diment, Cathy Ferrell, Diane Mason, Sally Maxwell, Suzie Seerey-Lester, and Rachelle Seigrist. The contemporary artworks, each created in the last three years, are available for purchase through the Susan K. Black Foundation.

Steamboat Museum show closes September 2, 2019
The
Steamboat Art Museum ran a contest called
Ekphrasis 2019: The Painted Words! A Visual Writing Event. Writers selected one of the works in the AWA show, wrote a prose piece or a poem about the work, and submitted it for awards.
