Hello Crohn’s and colitis family, and thanks for joining us for another week of Talk About Guts! We’ve got an edition packed with fun stories, useful information, and a challenge that will get your creative juices going

This week, we want to know: are you up for a challenge? The #ICanUCanDIY Challenge? We challenge YOU to show us your learned skills that you’ve developed throughout this pandemic and to pass on the savings you’ve generated by doing-it-yourself to support Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s critical research and support programs! Have you had to cut your hair, make your favourite dish, or bring the spa to your home? If so, we would love to see your talents! Read more to find out…
IBD Won't Hold This Scholar Back

You know what they say – when the going gets tough, the tough get going!

Leslie Hernandez, a past recipient of our AbbVie IBD Scholarship, shares how she never let her invisible illness stop her from achieving her dreams.

Anything You Can Do, I Can Do...

...at home, too! Have you heard of our Gutsy #ICanUCanDIY Challenge? Let’s make the most out of our current COVID-19 situation with a good ol’ fashioned CHALLENGE! Show us how you’ve been creatively getting along by taking on DIY (that’s “do-it-yourself”) projects that you wouldn’t normally do with the hashtag #ICanUCanDIY on social media and making a donation to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada with your savings from this newly learned skill. Then, challenge your friends, family, neighbours and coworkers to join in.

The best part? Everyone wins!

Walk this Way

The Gutsy Walk is many things: a nationwide show of support for everyone impacted by Crohn's or colitis, a place to connect with others [virtually] in your community who show courage in the face of illness, and a fundraiser that pushes forward research and treatments for inflammatory bowel disease. The next Gutsy Walk takes place on Sunday, August 23 rd, 2020 and  registration is open!
Living with Crohn's or Colitis? You're Not Alone!

While our in-person chapter meetings are postponed, support is still available for you. Our online communities help us come together and meet the needs of everyone affected by IBD. Find your community and join your local @getgutsycanada chapter here.

Staying on Top of Crohn's and Colitis? There's an App for That!

The changing nature of IBD means you could experience different symptoms and go through different treatments over time. That’s why we created our MyGut app, to help you track those changes so you can monitor your journey, and have accurate information ready for you.

Download MyGut for free from Google Play or the App store.
Taking Care of Your Mental Health

Just like our smartphones, we need to take time to recharge our own batteries. This week’s COVID-19 and IBD webinar discusses mental health in the time of a pandemic. Listen to the expert’s guidance and tips to help you maintain your mental and physical wellness. Once you are done, be sure to treat yourself to some self-care – whatever that may look like for you.
Thanks, as always, for subscribing to our Talk About Guts e-newsletter.

We are happy to keep our community updated through these times as we all work to make Canada—and the world—a better place for people living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Don’t forget to share with us your amazing DIY projects on social media with #ICanUCanDIY! We’re excited to see what everyone is up to!
