From the collect “On the Occasion of a Disaster” (Holy Women, Holy Men)

Draw near to us in this time of sorrow and anguish, comfort those who mourn, strengthen those who are weary, encourage those in despair, and lead us all to fullness of life…

I find myself drawn to these words in these turbulent days. We are in a time when we are asked to confront many disaster or many viruses. Some from beyond and borne by people that we love. Some long-living in our systems, which once seemed dormant, but now showing themselves as live and active. It is most certainly a time to pray for God to draw near and walk with us in sorrow and anguish. But not only in sorrow and anguish, not only as a comfort or source of encouragement; as much as we need these blessings, perhaps the last is the most earnest, “lead us all to fullness of life”.

May God lead us to Discernment; discernment about how we got to our present illnesses. Discernment to accurately diagnose our present situation so that we may work for cures, and bind up wounds. Discernment for the ways forward for the disasters of our time. May God in God’s grace allow us to see, even in these moments, the way that “leads us all to fullness of life”.

GLEANINGS AND TASK CONTINUE TO SERVE
by Deacon Trisha

Our meal service with the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen still happens each week on Tuesdays. (The first week of June was our fifth anniversary!) We distribute meals from the parking lot and continue to serve about 140 meals a week. If you would like to volunteer, please email dcntrisha@gmail.com , and we can slot you into the schedule. Only a few volunteers are needed, and the shifts are scheduled in advance. Please continue to donate individually packaged store-bought desserts for us to include with the meals.
