President's Message from Carol Watts
Hello to all! 

After three terrific years under the leadership of Mary Collins, I have some big shoes to fill.  Thank you, Mary, and all other members of the board, for everything our League accomplished.  We saw a strong voter service program to register more voters and help inform voters before elections. Strong committees worked on national, state, and local issues. 
 
As your new president, I am honored to serve and plan to work with other board members and League leaders to enable you, our members, to be more effective in pursuing projects that you think will make our community and nation stronger.

Voter Service News from Sara Nicolson
As students resume their studies at all levels, so do volunteers gear up for an active year ahead. 
As members of the League of Women Voters, we embrace our duty to educate and register new and disengaged citizens on the power of the vote.

We kick off our voter outreach this month on National Voter Registration Day, Tuesday, September 24. We invite you to join us in this effort. Volunteer to help with voter registration HERE . Question: Should the City of San Jose change its form of governance -- from the current Council-City Manager system to a "strong mayor" system? This is a question that is being discussed, especially following a survey done by the Silicon Valley Organization (formerly the San Jose Chamber of Commerce). What would be the benefits and the negatives of such a change? .... read more HERE.
Fighting Climate Change From Rita Norton
Almost 75 individuals showed up on Aug 13th, for our Climate Change event, From Paris to Pittsburgh to San Jose. The evening included a film screening and follow-up panel discussion on how communities are fighting Climate Change across the country. Insights and Perspectives
Rosaleen Zisch interviews Shannon Bushey, Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters on the Voter’s Choice voting system. They discuss the how, when and where of voting. The show will air the weeks of Sept 2, 16 and 30. 

On our second show Rita Norton interviews John Varela Director Santa Clara Valley Water District and Chris Hakes, Deputy Operating Officer on the Anderson Dam seismic retrofit project. This show will air the weeks of Sept 9 and 23.

Annual Fundraising Results for 2018/2019 From Karen Nelson
The League Board sends a huge thank you to all the donors to the 2018/2019 Annual Fundraising campaign. We received a total of $ 7,614 from 58 individual and family members. We exceeded our goal of $6,500, which is a tribute to the donors’ recognition of our work’s importance .
