United Way fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community.
Contact Senate Finance Committee Members on Early Care & Education by 8 a.m. Tomorrow
Dear Advocates,

The Louisiana Legislature's Special Session is over halfway complete, and this week is likely our last chance to get new funding dedicated to early care and education.

United Way of Southeast Louisiana stands with the Ready Louisiana Coalition in their updated ask for $25.1 million to maintain access to the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) for 4,000 children of essential workers.

During the pandemic, the Louisiana Department of Education expanded access to CCAP for children of essential workers with one-time funding from the CARES Act, allowing them to serve an additional 4,000 children. However, these dollars will run out in approximately six months, and once they are gone, nearly 4,000 children will lose access to care.

ACTION: Please consider contacting members of the Senate Finance Committee by 8 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, June 17) to share why the state needs to invest $25.1 million into early care and education to prevent 4,000 children of essential workers from losing access once block grants from the CARES Act are exhausted. Thank you for fighting with United Way for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
