Full house in Council Chambers as SAAG meeting gets started 8/22 |
The regularly scheduled Station Area Advisory Group (SAAG) meeting on August 22 was the occasion of the first public viewing of the initial plan for the Google project in the Diridon Station area. Google's real estate team headed by Alexa Arena, director of development, presented a series of guiding principles for the company's planning process:
- Jobs near transit
- Housing alongside jobs
- Opportunity pathways
- Build a place that is of San Jose
- Connect people to nature and transit
- Create partnerships around a vibrant public realm
Google referred to the presentation as their Mixed-Use Framework. Through colorful sketches, maps and vignettes, they shared a series of snapshots of the company's vision for the three areas of the project site - the northern art/industrial area, the core with vibrant cultural, retail and civic uses, and the south, featuring green experiences and local flavor. The full
presentation is available for review online. In addition, the meeting was livestreamed on
YouTube and was recorded for later viewing.

RiverPark II is filling up
____
The rapid, complete and ongoing occupancy of River Park Tower II at 300 Park Avenue is another example of the uptick in business interest in Downtown San Jose, and its appeal has been enhanced by being close to the planned Diridon Station area development, as well as offering a serene, tree-lined plaza along the Guadalupe River.
This month, tech company Sage Intacct expanded its River Park Tower II lease by taking over another floor (about 20,000 square feet) to its home office. Sage Intacct, a growing cloud accounting software and financial management business, now occupies six floors of River Park II. Enterprise storage company Cohesity moved into River Park II in July 2017, and announced in January 2019 that it would grow from 34,000 square feet to five floors - 99,000 square feet. Okta, which provides cloud software that helps companies manage and secure user authentication, also grew into River Park II, doubling its space to two floors (40,000 square feet) in July 2018.

Updated San Jose construction report and interactive map
____
In addition to our Development Update Report, this month we are delighted to share a new feature, an interactive map of San Jose development projects, that incorporates links to Google satellite maps to see street view images of the project site, and a link to SJPermits.org to get more information on any of projects, including the permit status and site information.
The map was developed in partnership with City of San Jose's Public Works GIS team and we're looking forward to iterating and add features to improve our ability to share information. Projects are identified by Housing, Commercial, or Mixed Use categories, and the project outlines on the map represent whether the project is under Planning Review, Approved, or under Construction - the closer the border is to being solid, the closer the project is to being under construction.
