Hey People!

We can barely contain our excitement to tell you...For the first time in California history a bill written by currently and formerly incarcerated trans people passed the final house of the California State Legislature yesterday!!!

The Name and Dignity Act (SB 310), authored by Senator Atkins passed out of the California State Assembly yesterday and is headed to Governor Jerry Brown's desk for a signature after a concurrence vote in the Senate!

With the help of your support, the first bill in California history written by currently and formerly incarcerated trans people passed the Assembly with a 41 to 18 vote.

For the Name and Dignity act to become law, Governor Brown needs to sign the bill as the final step of this legislation.

If you are an individual, please call (916) 445-2841 or email Governor Brown and encourage him to sign SB 310 by Senator Atkins:

My name is _______, and I live in _______, California. I'm writing to say that I support Senate Bill 310 by Senator Atkins. SB 310 will make it possible for transgender prisoners to change their legal name and gender by applying through the superior courts. This bill is crucial in supporting the dignity of transgender people while they are incarcerated and breaks down many of the barriers for transgender people re-entering the community. I respectfully ask for your signature on this important legislation.
