Dear Class of 2020 Students, Parents/Guardians,

As we begin the final year of high school for the Class of 2020, we would like to remind students and parents of our attendance procedures, off-campus privileges for seniors, and emphasize the importance of making decisions that accurately represent the contributions that the Class of 2020 have made to Lake Forest High School.

Attendance Reminders

Being present in class is an important aspect of the learning process and helps students manage their studies for each class. Students have nine (9) discretionary absences per class per semester. These include all unexcused and parent excused absences. In addition, all seniors and juniors may use an additional four (4) school days per year for college visits. Documentation that verifies the scheduled college visit needs to be turned into the Attendance Office. Most often, colleges send an email confirming the appointment. If you know that you are going to miss school for an extended amount of time, please schedule a meeting with your dean. Although this is unlikely for the majority of our students, any student who exceeds nine (9) discretionary absences in a class will need to appeal for credit for each class at the end of the semester.

Senior Off-Campus Privileges

Lake Forest High School is a closed campus for students. However, seniors will be allowed to receive an authorized Senior Off-Campus Privilege Pass for ONE Non-Athletic Study Hall period on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and lunch periods every day. Please note, the pass does not permit students to miss Study Halls on Wednesdays and Thursdays. In order to use this pass, parents will need to complete the online permission form included here:  Senior Off Campus Pass . Students may not go off campus until they have a pass. When utilizing the Senior Off-Campus Privilege Pass, students need to exit through the front Commons doors and scan their ID. Upon returning for the next class, students must rescan their IDs and proceed straight to class. Students returning before the period ends must rescan their IDs and return to Study Hall. Since this is a special privilege for seniors, students may lose said privilege for inappropriate behaviors and failure to follow school procedures (i.e. excessive unexcused absences). Please note, students will NOT be permitted to leave without their Senior Off Campus Pass.

Behavior and Conduct Expectations

We encourage all students to make choices that reflect the highest level of respect for oneself, others and family. In past years, acts of vandalism, mischief, practical jokes or inappropriate activities have negatively impacted an otherwise joyous and celebratory time for our families. These activities are not appropriate at any time during the school year, and such activities may result in students losing the opportunity to attend significant events like Prom, Graduation and/or other culminating activities.

The Board of Education and administration will take a strong stand against those misguided “traditions” and behaviors that destroy school property, endanger students, and violate public laws. Students involved in such behaviors will be subject to disciplinary action, including but not limited to Dean’s Office consequences, notification to law enforcement officials, financial restitution, loss of senior parking, and/or removal from school events (Prom, Graduation, etc).

Senior year is a very important and exciting year and we are here to support student success. Parents/Guardians, please take the time to have a conversation with your student(s) so they truly understand the serious consequences that could result from actions associated with the behaviors previously mentioned. At any time, if you have questions, comments or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

We want the Class of 2020 to enjoy their senior year to the fullest and leave LFHS with great memories and pride.

Sincerely,
