I can't overstate the benefits - indeed the urgency - of this project for the Pines and the rest of the Fire Island communities. While the FIMI project will give us a larger beach, it will also provide essential protection for our properties. This seven-year project demonstrates how the 17 Fire Island communities can work together to build the future foundation for Fire Island. 

Pines Party

WHAT A NIGHT! Pines Party 2019 was one of the best in the 21 year history of the party.   Who can forget the sails lining the back of the stage appearing to billow in the wind.  Music, weather and production values all lined up for a wonderful night.  Kudos to Allan Baum and the Pines Party Committee for a job well done.  The Pines is fortunate to have their volunteerism.  Revenue return to charity and attendance were at their peaks.   Special thanks to Jim Pepper for hosting the After Party at his home on the bay and to Ed Schulhafer for hosting the VIP Party.  Pines Party is a lovely tradition dating back to the Morning Party.    

Fire Island Boulevard
The highway crew has trimmed back the bamboo encroaching on the walkways at selected spots throughout the community. They will also begin construction of a new 7-foot-wide boulevard walk next month.

The Fire Island Pines Historical Preservation Society will hold a book signing this Saturday, August 17th from noon to 3 pm at the Pines Liquor Shop celebrating their new book "Beach Fire Island's 1st beach party - the party that started it all."

Over 100 meetings:  FIPPOA participated in more than 100 meetings with Suffolk County and the Army Corps of Engineers, as well as so many phone calls they are impossible to count!

Federal, state and local agencies made it happen:  FIPPOA collaborated with a group that included the Army Corps of Engineers, both in Washington and with the local New York District; the Congressional team from the Senate and the House; Fire Island National Seashore led by Kris Soller; New York State Department of Environmental Conservation; New York Governor Andrew Cuomo; Suffolk County Department of Public Works and Law Departments; Town of Brookhaven Board of Zoning Appeals, Department of Buildings, and Department of Environmental Protection (Wetlands); and the United States Department of the Interior.
