Dear Archway Family and Friends,
Yesterday we distributed student belongings to many families as they came to campus. It was wonderful to see you and hear that your families are safe and well. I am also so grateful for the kind words of appreciation that you expressed. Our teachers are working diligently, and I know that you as parents are putting in a tremendous amount of effort as the balance of this educational partnership has shifted away from campus and into the homes.
I want to share an important message with you that I have been sharing in my (Zoom) meetings throughout the week – with our senior leadership team, our faculty and staff, and during my Coffee with fourth-grade parents. The message is simply this, “It will be okay.”
Remote learning is a challenge and is far from ideal. Many of you are working from home and putting in perhaps even more hours than you were before quarantining. Some of you are working essential jobs that require you to still be at your place of work; we honor your service and respect how you are serving your community during this season. Others have multiple children now at home all day, every day, and are attempting to function as teacher, short-order cook, entertainment director, and chore manager.
My encouragement in respect to remote learning is for you to do the best that you can, given your particular circumstances. We don’t want you to be overwhelmed or to add even more anxiety during these stressful times. Our aim is to provide you with meaningful work that helps scholars to learn and grow, to offer enough work but not too much. That is why many lessons are labeled as optional and why enrichment activities are included in the newsletter. If you must choose only one thing, choose reading. Read to your scholars, have them read to you. Record them reading to you and play it back on their next birthday. You know best as a parent how much schoolwork is enough and how much is too much. Exercise that discretion guilt-free.
Please give Google Classroom a good faith effort, but I encourage you to have patience with the teachers, with your scholars, and most importantly with yourselves.
We are in the business of creating lifelong learners and of cultivating the pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. Whatever happens over the course of the next six weeks, your seven-year-old will not be irreparably derailed from that Aim. They will still be able to acquire the skills necessary to thirst for Knowledge and be able to read a Great Book, listen to Beautiful music, and appreciate Fine art when they are seventy-seven years old and the COVID spring of 2020 is but a distant memory.
Truly,
Curtis Fee

REMOTE LEARNING GOOGLE CLASSROOM
Google Classroom log in and passwords were sent out last week.
We are urging our families to use Google Classroom. This will be the easiest way to access the assignments, instructional videos, and optional resources. Please know that grade levels are working together to deliver content, so don’t be alarmed if the teacher on the math video is not your teacher’s homeroom teacher. You are probably still in the right place!
For those who cannot access Google Classroom, there are still packets available electronically using this link:

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT
Mr. Golich was born in the San Francisco Bay area, but raised in Phoenix after age eight. He attended Washington High School and Arizona State University, receiving his B.S. in business finance. After college, Mr. Golich worked in general administration for several small businesses and non-profit organizations including the ASU Alumni Association.
Several years after starting a family, he made a mid-life change and pursued a career in teaching. He started as a second-grade teacher at Valley Classical Christian Academy, where he taught and later served as an administrator for nine years. When the school closed, with a heavy heart, he moved on to the admissions office at Scottsdale Community College. However, he missed being in the classroom and so was excited to join the ANP community as an AT for second grade last year. He is delighted to join the fourth-grade team this year, and looks forward to helping young scholars in their pursuit of the True, the Good and the Beautiful.
Mr. Golich has been married to his lovely wife Stephanie for 22 years. They have two children, both of whom graduated from Veritas Preparatory Academy and are now attending ASU. In his spare time, he likes to read, eat out, travel, but mostly spend time with his family.

LO
VE AND LOGIC
5 Helpful things in times of crisis.
- Kids take their emotional cues from us. They watch how we react and tend to follow our lead. But don’t worry...
- It IS Okay to Grieve. We are all grieving right now. There is tremendous loss and stress and it is not healthy too bottle it up.
- It is Okay to Be Honest. We don’t have to hide the hard truths from our kids or try to protect them from the hard reality. There is a balance between overwhelming them and pretending like nothing is wrong.
- Limits Are Still Important. We still need to be setting limits - with ourselves and our kids, especially around how we treat one another. Crisis does not make right and wrong disappear.
- Model Hope and Appreciation. So many people are working so hard to take care of others and to find solutions. This fact can be a source of hope. It can inspire appreciation and a willingness to do our part.
We know this is difficult for so many.
Thanks for reading!
